Displaying a few pictures right after the title screen.

.
Greetings.

I'd like to display a few pictures immediately after the title screen for my game. These would be used as a basic introduction to the setting. I'd like for the intro to occur before the player is dropped into the game world.

So - Is it easiest to do with with an event, or should I poke around in the scripts?

I'm asking this question because without at least a little bit background information, the player would be lost. Another option is a pop-up screen that directs the player to the journal on a desk. Pretty simple, but without the elegance of something that auto-starts.

Thanks in advance for the replies and suggestions.

This is pretty basic, here-- you're wanting what amounts to a cutscene that starts of a game, which is a common thing to do.

Here's how to do it:

On the map that the game starts on, have an event that's either Autorun or Parallel Process, or maybe one of each. (Thing to be aware of: An Autorun event will prevent the player from doing anything, which is good for a cutscene, but it takes a split-second to start, while a Parallel Process event will run before the screen appears, but won't stop the player from entering the menu and messing with things.)

From there, use Show Picture, Show Text, Set Move Route, and every other fancy trick that you've got to do your intro. And of course you'll use Switches or Self-Switches and multiple event pages to ensure that these things only run once.

Was that clear, or do you have any questions?

That was very clear! I'll try both techniques and see which works the best. Thanks very much!

Oh, and a further useful tip:

If you start the main character off with no graphic, and change it later, it can be useful for a leading cutscene.

Your first map can be a blank one that you put images in front of, and then use Transfer to send the player to wherever the game itself actually begins.
