Display Hinges

About a year and a half ago the hinge in the left side of my laptop broke like 90% of all people with my laptop. Now after all this time the right side has broken from the strain. I'd buy new hinges, but have run into a problem. There seem to be two different hinges for my laptop and I haven't the foggiest which one is the correct one.
my laptop is a HP Pavilion DV9207US. The choices are:

432963-001
Display hinge kit - Includes left and right display hinges - For use with single lamp display panel
432964-001.
Display hinge kit - Includes left and right display hinges - For use with dual lamp display panel

How do I know which I am to use? The plastic cover is the only thing holding my screen upright and it too is broken, so it won't hold long.

Please help me.

Do you have a dual lamp, or a single lamp display panel?

[edit] Come to think if it, my girlfriend has the same problem with one of her hp pavilions, but it's a piece of ..well you know. Not worth fixing.

Please don't double-post unless you are addressing a separate post, or significant time has passed, and you have an update.

Personally, I'd avoid anything HP for a while. They've been having some trouble with hardware, as well as quite a bit of trouble with customer support. There are other companies out there that provide much better quality and service at this point.

I don't know if I have a single or dual lamp display.

Other than their few, IMO, hardware problems they are better than others. My last laptop lasted 3 months before dieing and it was an alienware... :) I use HP because I have quite a few HP peripherals. They have never quite worked right on my Acer...

HP doesn't even make intelligent decisions with their peripherals. I have an HP printer, and it installed at least 20 seperate and distinct "required" programs, half of which run in the background hogging processing power for no real reason. Why not just consolidate everything into one program, with that running in the background? They did make a very intelligent decision regarding printers though. Unlike every other printer company, HP put their print heads on the cartridge itself, thus saving the need for "buffer" ink, as the printer won't be damaged when the printer runs out of ink. I always found that to be one of the few common sense decisions made recently regarding printers. Look up the PCworld annual poll of consumer opinions of the various tech companies. HP scored last or second to last in every category that it was included in, and they gave the reasons why.

Here are the reviews for laptop companies. Here are the results for desktops. Finally, you can find their survey methodology here.

Also, they probably would have made you pay extra for a dual lamp display. That sounds like one of the useless "features" they would have made you choose between when you bought your laptop. Why not check out your original reciept? (if you still have it) If not, you may be out of luck. I'd assume that a dual lamp would have cables running though both hinges, while a single lamp might only have cables running though one. (Thus creating the need for a seperate repair kit) In case you were wondering, the way those hinges are made requires that the cables go through the actual hinge to get to the monitor.

I agree with Glitchfinder. If your hinge is damaged, and cracked open- Check to see if both have wiring. You'll probably need the dual lamp display if there's wiring on both sides of the LCD.
