Dip into the Paranormal - Subject: Zombies

The zombie is an undead creature that was originally a living human with their own mind.
Haiti is probably where the legend of the zombie originated (Haiti is in Africa) I heard that voodoo priests would re-animate the dead to work in plantations, very spooky.
I remember a story of a researcher who went to Haiti and learned of a story about a person who was reported still walking around 30 years after they died.
The idea of salt killing them originated from some book, can't remember the title, but it had zombies with no mind or memory, until they tasted salt, then they'd remember everything and go back to their familiar surroundings where they would die again.
I believe that a corpse reanimating is possible until the brain rots and loses the abilty to pass electrical signals, the story of Frankenstein's monster is thought to originate from the 1800's electrical experiments on corpses, and scientists making limbs and faces of dead bodies move with electricity.
People are very sceptical about the whole zombie thing, probably due to the fictionisation of the zombie image, so keep an open mind and let's discuss zombies on a serious side for once.

Their existance, the possibility of re-animating the body after death, how the legends could've formed, if you yourself have encountered a zombie O_o , if you think it's a load of bull crap, what kind of zombie image do you prefer best and anything else to do with the idea of zombies on a more serious note (No listing all the zombie films or posting about games that are cool because you kill zombies and stuff in them)

I've never heard about the salt thing...But how it really grew is with cinema, Movies with zombies in them, Like Frankinstien.

If you believe in Voodoo, a Bokor can resurrect the dead. Zombie powder has been studied by actual doctors, and it's been believed that some of the ingredients are hallucinations and somehow hypnotic. I don't know the official scientific stance.

As for the mythical walking corpse, I have your answer right here: no! Well unless you count rock stars who were legally dead for 3 seconds before that adrenaline shot to the heart kick started their system a 2nd time - but, you know, other than that absolutely not.

EDIT:
Oh, and according to various more Christian Bokors (because Voodoo has a huge Christian base, but some are more Jesusing than others) reports salt didn't kill a zombie - it allowed it to speak again (big book of vampires and ghouls, chapter 4 "ghouls of the Americas"). A zombie could not speak freely, until given salt. Salt the purification didn't kill the zombie, it allowed it freedom by purifying it back towards God's plan thus giving the organ free will. A salt water bath would free the zombie, back to it's human form - whether that human form was alive or not depended on how the person became a zombie, from death or by not.

I never really knew about the salt thing nor where the story about Zombies originated from. If you ask me, it could be possible for dead bodies to re-animate. We just don't know how it will/can happen yet.

There's a whole bunch of crazy things we thought would never happen but over time, those things became a reality. Cloning is an example, and pretty soon, an invisibility cloak might become a reality (I read an article about it somewhere. Had something to do with a prism or something like that).

I AM LIVING PROOF.

There's not a whole lot to discuss in regards to zombies, it's like debating the existence of werewolves or the tooth fairy, in my opinion.

The only way I can imagine a realistic zombie is through magic, so it's not very realistic at all. Unless you could replace the brain with something else, and devise ways of feeding the body with energy, I don't think dead people could walk.

I remember reading something about how a type of parasite started up the heart of a corpse or whatever again and they came back as zombies. Now, I know it's all fake, but something like that could happen. And btw, that parasite thing, I think I read it off of some kind of book. I forget what it's called.

I do not intend to offend anyone, but any zombie theories are made up by ignorants who don't know how the human body works.
I don't study biology but I know the basics, and the basics tell me that a human needs a source of energy in order to live, that is oxygen and many other stuff. Zombie is a dead person that walks again, but how the fuck? If the brain is rotten and dead how can it move dead muscles? A parasite that restarts the heart makes no fucking sense, unless the person died seconds before the infection.
Ok, qft, we all know it's just a fantasy.

Exactly... which is why Zombies are a complete myth... if someone comes back to life... well... she/he isn't a zombie anymore... it happens on hospitals all over the world... someone's heart gets stopped and after all the things they try works again... is that person a zombie...?

How oxygen allows the body to work? in all means of it... by blood... blood carries out the oxygen trough out the body... if a RE or similar zombie could in fact exist, it would be pretty stupid... since the wounds that caused death are open and it's bye bye blood... meaning, no functional body and no zombie superpowers like the ones some are used to.

And the Haiti Zombie Mith says that the person died... and 15 years later he was buried by his family, but they found that there was a tomb for him already... O.o

And Haiti is a Caribbean country, not African... sheez....

And the source of life is: CHON

Carbone
Hydrogen
Oxygen
Nitrogen

Together those 4 elements form the human body's chain

Hmmm... The movie zombie is just dumb, dead people standing up and walking around because some weirdo bit them... But maybe some electrical gizmo programmed with some hell advanced AI could like... replace the brain... Hook up to the nervous system and replicate the electrical signals to the body... So it'd be exactly like a normal person, breathing, eating, shitting... But with a computer instead of a brain...

someone's heart gets stopped and after all the things they try works again... is that person a zombie...?
You are not dead when your heart isn't pumping. You're quick on your way to being dead, because without your circulatory system active, your body isn't getting any energy... You aren't dead until there isn't any electricity in your brain any more.

If I had a chip implanted into my head, I'd prefer if it removed the needed function of ... anal relief. ( I don't know how to put it elegantly.)

Well then how would you get rid of processed food? does it just disappear? Unless there's a way for cells to be powered with electricity. Which i don't think there is. Some cells, yes. Not all.

The nerve cells in the entire body are triggered by electrical currents from the brain and to the brain, so restoring the electrical current to the brain and heart could get the blood flow running around the body again, the diaphram working again and then the lungs re-activating, like in the story of Frankenstein's monster.
That's why they use electric shocks to bring people's hearts back to life when they die, they do it on the brain now for paralytic theropy but it wouldn't work if the brain was already heavily decomposed.

Zombies are more fun Necromanced anyways...at least that way, there is no need for sense...

I never liked the term undead, anyways. It just means living...

A much better term is simply Living Crazy Mother Fucker with sharp teeth and a mind to use 'em.

Long term, but I think it has a nice ring.
