Design review

Ok, it's a commercial site i know, but we aren't open for business yet anyway, so no matter. Anyway, my graphics artist did up the design and i got it working in most browsers... I'm having trouble getting it to render correctly in IE though. It should render correctly in chrome, firefox, and safari. Anyway, tell me what you think, and if you know how to get IE to handle the site correctly, any assistance is appreciated.

Looks great. You could possibly decrease the size of the copyright at the bottom, though.

Don't worry about handling IE- Just ignore it. There are many people that use it, there are even users on IE5 (No CSS :( ). Just don't worry about it- You'll need CSS/JavaScript hacks for it anyway.

Awesome Bro

Just ignore IE? Although that sounds delightful as a web developer myself, i'm afraid this is something you can't really do. There are a few webites and companies out tehre that do feel it's easier to do so, but in the long-run they are losing a pretty strong percentage of their traffic for the sake of making their lives easier. I find it quite ignorant, myself.

The issues that you're having, t0nedef are more than likely double padding issues or something small that IE doesn't like. It can be a number of things but i haven't got an earlier version at my disposal so can you post up a screenshot?

I'll bullet some of the issues i find in the design:

  • There's no focus point at all. There are too many things that take the focus of the viewer right away and no real flow to it.
  • The title in the header is unreadable with all the blurs and effects
  • Same goes for the navigation. It looks like you've written it with spraypaint in paint and it's quite hard to read. Especially at that angle
  • There are too many different fonts
  • Your typography itself needs a bit of fine tuning. Try having a fiddle with colours, sizes etc etc
  • If you intend this to be a site for web services then i suggest making it less dark and more pleasing on the eye. In all honesty i thought it was some form of a coding blog before i saw the bottom part asking me if you can do anything for me. The skulls and grunge does you no favours in attracting outside interest.

I'm not having a go in anyway, i'm only trying to help. Get that screenshot to me when you have the chance!

Cheers

So true. I HATE HATE HATE IE and have for years, but it just so turns out that a LOT of people on the web still use it.

On the other issues $t3v0 definitely knows better than me, but I can say:

There's no focus point at all. There are too many things that take the focus of the viewer right away and no real flow to it.

I am not a UI designer but when I looked at the site, I didn't know where I was looking. It took me way too long to actually even figure out what the site was about. Which goes hand-in-hand with:

By the look of it I honestly thought it was like a paintball website or something.
