STORY

Claret lived in a mystical forest full of strawberries and flowers. Most of the maidens who lived in this forest were born from the Magical Sunflower Seed that was nurtured by the giant Strawberry Flower. Everyday the maidens were tasked with protecting their forest as well as their great mother. The Great Mother Strawberry Flower needed to be watered by the Magical Watering Pail in order to keep her healthy and able to produce more offspring. Then one day the jealous Mr. Muffin Man decided to attack the forest with his Tuff Muff brigade. They stole the Magical Watering Pail as well as the Magical Sunflower Seed that the maidens took so much care in guarding. Without the seed and the pail Mother Strawberry Flower was doomed to shrivel away and die. Claret and several of the other Strawberry girls decided it was time to take back what was theirs or die trying.

Throughout the land they would have to face more than just Tuff Muffs and Mr. Muffin Man, they would also have to face the roly-poly Seed Puffs, the fierce Doom Shrooms and other territorial critters. Help Claret and the others jump over their obstacles and find their lost pail and seed.

Alright, I played through it, and found one thing bad...

When you fall off, there is a piece of BGM or something missing in the audio. :D

Other than that, I really love the idea of a ss, and it is very nice! I really do like this game and I hope that you will finish it! I love the graphics, and the originality is nice.

Is there? To tell you the truth I just took one of the BGM songs and Turned the pitch all the way to 50% and made it sound low key so it'll let you know you failed. I'll take a look into that, other than that I'm glad you like it. I hope more people will like it too.

Did you not play it because of that? I just drew it that way cause I'm trying to attract a certain audience. Most people who wear skirts and sit at that angle should show a little undies unless they aren't wearing any.

That is what I was thinking. :D I hope that wasn't their reason for not playing if so...that would be silly. I loved the game!
 
You're trying to attract an audience of people who like to look at the underwear of girls who look 12 but IT'S OKAY, WE SAY HERE THAT SHE'S 20?

And 'It's only logical that she would show her underwear in that pose' is a pretty lame excuse when you have complete control over the pose, if you're trying to use it as one.

And yes, I didn't play it because of that. I'm quite aware that I'm clearly not the target audience.

Any particular reason people come in threads of good games and try to ruin it with nonsense. Even if I removed that from the artwork and made it suitable for all people I doubt you'd play it anyway. Unless you say otherwise what's the point in telling me that. Honestly. I thought this site gave CONSTRUCTIVE critism.
 
Yes, I would have played it. I looked at the screens before anything else, scrolled up to look for the download link and noticed it then.

'Sexualizing a girl who doesn't look like she's even in her teens yet will alienate the bulk of your potential audience' is constructive, whether you choose to listen to it or not. And if you made the concious decision to use that image to represent your game I have every right to react to it.

So let me get this straight. If I do change the artwork to something not so sexual and geared toward men. You will download this game and play it for all that its worth and give it a further and solid review? If you would I'm so sorry for my reaction. Just wanna make sure cause you said "would have played it" so I'm thinking theirs no chance.

Well I don't know, I mean, I kinda see what Aolist is getting at,

The game, from the looks of those screenshots and choice of colours looks a little "girly", not that I wouldn't play it, but it seems that way, and yet you've got an upskirt picture of a girl/woman, doesn't really suit the feel of the game.

It doesn't bother me at all, I'll play it either way, since it looks like a good game you've got there, and I'll play just about anything, a picture doesn't mean shit to me, unless you had goatse or something, lol.
 
I would have played it, yes. And if that image is not indicative of the contents of the game then I'll happily download and play and give my opinion on the game itself.

I feel the fact that you have that image combined with a lot of childish motifs sends off mixed messages about the game which all, I think, give the wrong idea but sexuality in narrative vs. sexuality in metanarrative is not a discussion for this topic. I'm sorry for coming off as so rude and soapbox-y at first.
 
I don't really know what Aolist is ranting about. Look at almost ANY anime or manga series and you see girls' underwear etc. So why do you act that pictures like these are not ever shown before in a game or other media? I even think it's a little twisted you find that picture sexual in the first place.

Now, about the game (after playing it just a few minutes): it's fun, it's original... Quality work. So keep working on it!

I should change the colors and make them a little less girly, my girlfriend Strawberry, colored the background and the title but the in game colors are girly too. I'll just do a little shift fill bucket in paint.net and see what other colors I can make. Too much pink indeed for that front image.

Okay okay, I would, I admit it, but hey, any game with the goat man in it (In the game, not his own arse...) has got to be pure gold!

Anyways, I'll download and try this out tomorrow for sure, since I'm a little occupied with powerbombing babies into spikepits at the moment...
 
I apologise for derailing to topic further by responding to this but:

I'm not 'acting like picture like these are not ever shown before'. In fact, it's quite the opposite! I am well aware of how common pantyshots are. It's because of that that I feel the need to speak out where I see them, because people who honestly mean no harm by it and are probably just aiming to produce something that will make others happy with the best of intentions are just imitating what they see in other places without thinking enough about the implications of it.

As for it being twisted for me to label the image as sexual? That argument would stand if:

1) A conscious decision hadn't been made to place the character in a pose that would involve drawing her underwear.
2) He hadn't admitted the image was aimed towards men.

As a disclaimer: I'm not accusing anyone here of anything other than not thinking enough about the implications of what they're creating/seeing and I'm sorry if it sounds like I am. Also in before 'crazy feminist'.

Just so this post is at all on topic! Downloaded while I was typing this, going to play now. Promise to examine the game itself as much as I did that one picture.

NO DON'T DOWNLOAD IT YET. I just put in V2.2 because I fixed all the colors and the title graphic. Plus I realized what Radeth was talking about the missing BGM. I removed a duplicate BGM and accidentally used it somewhere else. Its fixed in the new version.

No you're not twisted. Too many things now a days are geared to draw certain crowds. Just like you wouldn't want to see that, I wouldn't want to see certain things when I'm about to play a game.
 
Too late! But I've not got further in review than some notes I made to write up so I'll just put those up for now. Ignore typos, note were just meant to be for my own use.

idle sprite's boobs jiggle. not sure if want.
little strawberry on windowskin is ADORABLE
if run to far left side of tutorial map, sprite pose changhes and it looks like she's humping side of window. should not be giggling at this after all pantyshot fuss.
am giggling about this anyway.
*missing music when fall down hole results in game crash
wussing out and playing on easy now
filling holes with water on easy is a pretty nice touch!
possible bug: if you die on easy it switches to normal
land in water = life but fall down waterfall = death is potentially confusing
especially since water and waterfall look the same from above. maybe add small animation to waterfall of leaves or something being washed down it to differenciate them?

missing animation at watercan crashes game. assume I've finished the level.

Overall I love how smoothly animated everything is. That's pretty rare for an rmxp game! It's certainly all very pretty.

It's pretty obvious that a lot less effort's been put into the enemy design than everything else. While that's pretty normal, well-designed enemies in games can be as iconic as the playable characters! If you have time, it might be worth it to revisit them.

I'm not sure that RMXP was the best choice for an engine here. The game doesn't play smoothly at all and collision detection's a little iffy. Also the character 'slides' a little after jumps. I'm not sure it it's deliberate or not.

EDIT: Also that's way better! Thanks for listenning and sorry for being so confrontational about it at first. Downloading new version now, will playthrough and give proper written-up review in the near future!

TerrainTag failure there, due to pixelmovement. I'm gonna have to figure out why the script is doing that.

That's my mistake, I basically copy and pasted maps for easy mode but forgot to change transfer player upon death.

In future releases I definitely plan to have her slowly fall down at the top, haven't figured out how to implement it yet, but I'm getting close.

Trust me, I definitely plan to make the enemies I lot more animated and do a lot more things than hurt you on touch. I just rushed in a demo just to see whether it was worth a shot or not. Plus I plan to make more enemies than just two.

RMXP is what I know best. I realize the lag, I've tried Anti-Lag. It's mainly my platformer script that gives me the trouble. Collision detection sucks right now, looking to improve that.

Thanks for giving me a chance even though I know you didn't have too.
 
I think it's the bright colours and the fact that they're the only non-interractable element right now, plus the fact that the strawbetty motif is a big thing and they have it that makes them look like they're supposed to be important. I'd suggest making background stuff stand out a little less but I'm not quite sure how you'd go about it. I might take a screenshot and open it up in photoshop to play with the colours to see if that helps at all.
