Demigod anyone?

Yesterday was the official release of the game Demigod, an RTS that strips away the crazy micro-management stuff and adds in lovely RPG elements; all wrapped in a lovely box of nice visuals.

Has anybody given it a shot? I'm rather enjoying it myself! The copy I bought's key didn't feel like working, and they wouldn't take it back so I've been playing it over Hamachi with a few random folk until I feel like rebuying it. (I'm guessing someone got lucky in their keygen and got an official key or some sort)

I haven't really looked at it at all, but a buddy of mine says he thinks it should be good, so it must be good cause he's the pickiest motherfucker when it comes to games.

i'm rather picky with games as well - and i loves demigod. however i'm broke as hell (in school + no job, what a combination!) and i can't afford to actually purchase the damn game so i'm doomed to play it offline indefinitely. :sad:

at any rate, the tournament mode keeps me busy when the computer doesn't cheat (i.e. win). i really like the rook on the assassin side (i believe that's what the guys on the left side of the selection screen are caled?), and oak on the generals side. there's better characters, clearly, but nothing is quite as satisfying as bludgeoning the enemy towers with a big ass rock monster, and humping it back to health when you start to run low - followed by another bludgeoning.


if i wasn't such a poor dude i bet the online would be awesome @__@

Online is indeed a whole 'nother area of awesome!

My first match was just awesome, had a blast in a 3v3 match with some random folks on the network. Though there are some issues with lag (so many people from Slovakia, Israel etc.) due to connecting with people far away through Hamachi, it is generally nothing game-breaking. I've had a good chunk of flawless no-lag games.

My favorites would have to be Torch Bearer and maybe the Vampire. Unclean Beast is a close third, apparently his lore is he clawed his way out of his mother's womb. That's just pleasantly grotesque!

unclean beast is soooo annoying when he levels up and freaking plagues EVERYTHING all the time @__@ its no fun constantly running back to the healing crystal with the damn rook every other minute because of that pesky bastard.

also i JUST realized earlier today that you can buy armor and accessories for your demigod. i dont know how i missed it for so long

Aah, such is the price of there not being a demo/tutorial before/at release (they got rushed to release early but are working on it). If you didn't know yet, you can also go to your citadel and buy upgrades for you reinforcements as well as other enhancements for the field (increased gold gain, more tower hp, etc.)

If you are able to get it setup, there are TONS of servers dedicated on Hamachi for online play for Demigod. We could even setup a server for .org goers to play it out against each other.

That sounds rather interesting if I do say so myself!

yeah, that's what i was spending all my gold on - upgrades for buildings/reinforcements. then i realized i can upgrade my own character directly and it's my primary cash dump now. this game needs a tutorial

i'm not sure what hamachi is, but i'd like to try it. i'll check it out soon, and see whats up with it.

i've noticed the difficulty bar between 'normal' and 'hard' on the tournaments is ridiculous. i cann annihilate a team on normal with like 8 kills, total control of the map, and like 40k gold - then on hard i struggle to keep a stalemate. :l

It's a work-around for games that use LAN (mainly RTS types).

It took me a while to get it working properly, and there is a lack of people hosting games. But it is definitely fun when you get in on one that has a people in your same country (aka people with less than 200ms) so there's no lag.

We need to get some more fellows into this ol' game! I can see it becoming a classic like WC3 and those sorts given time.

man, thanks for letting me know about that program. i got it set up pretty easily, and i've played a game with some random dudes. 4 of the 6 of us took oak... he must be popular. :p

lag got pretty heavy near the end of the game (a fuckload of units swarming around a single citadel launching a fockload of attacks i guess that'll cause a bit of lag tho), but it's definitely playable like this.

what network were you playing on?

I myself play on the DEMIGOD FM servers, generally around FM20 (17,18,19, 21 etc.) password: demigod

I am Cry on there if you happen to see me on.

And that's actually quite odd! I've only seen Rook used on a live match once before. I suppose I have been sticking to the weirder crowds.

well it was oak that we we're using, maybe you just confused what i said with what i stated earlier about primarily using rook?

i was on FM11 or 12 earlier, i'll try the 20's next time i'm on. my hamachi display name is salmonsoup, my ingame is just 'brian'. i'll probalby be identifiable as the only guy using rook >:l

I just got out of a game hosted through there and it was perfectly smooth, no lag or anything. :thumb:

All you have to do is make an account, and have the selection of games show only Demigod ones and you'll be set.

Once you join a game the host starts it when everyone is ready, and then it auto-launches Demigod for you and all you have to do is click Multiplayer -> LAN.

I am Cry on there as well if anyone is interested.

I just bought it today. Was going to 'try' it first, but decided that if it was released by StarDock it will be rather good. As soon as it is done installing, I'll be on. Which patch are you all on? I'll update to there so I can play with you...

@Cry's first post, Return it to where you bought it. I had my Sins of a solar Empire and Mount & Blade's Keys not work, so I took them back to Walmart with my receipt and got new copies..

I can not figure out how to work Hamatchi. FML.

That aside, I picked up Demigod hearing it was a lot like WCIII'S Defense of the Ancients mod. I get creamed every time I played it so I figured maybe I should pick up Demigod early and get a head start. Fighting bots on Nightmare mode is actually getting easier now. Figured maybe I can play online now.

Personally, the only character I can seem to play is Regulus. He's the last character I'd pick lookswise, but yeah. I'm trying to figure out how to play Torch Bearer and how to make the Rook sturdier.

The guy I usually play as is either Oak or the vampire guy. I don't evne use the minions as the vampire, he's pwn on his own.

imo the only general who can be good without minions is oak. i remember when i first realized he can use his shield spell on himself.. i never died after that @@

I didn't know you had to summon your own minions. Back on DotA, it did it all on its own. Hell, I hardly ever did any fortifications and focused all my funds on character building. Probably why I can only use Regulus. I can keep a safe distance away from a beating.

So this works with Hamachi? If then awesome! Another awesome RTS to introduce to the AntiValve network. This game seems really awesome, I'm gonna download it as soon as possible. This is similar to DotA? Wow, now I really want to play it =P

Alternative for Hamachi is Wippien, same thing but with tons more features and more stable ping.
