DeM0nFiRe's [cRPG] Engine

Hey people, I have decided to make an RPG engine for, are you ready for this, a calculator. During school I have nothing to do and I randomly decided to make an RPG engine on my TI-83 Plus calculator. so far it's coming along pretty nicely. The only problem I have is the unavoidable problem of the incredibly slow processor and drawing speed.
So far, the working features are:
-Title Screen
-Map drawing
-Actor drawing
-Actor movement

Well right now my calculator is at school, But I plan on taking some photos of it for you guys.
UPDATE: I have the menu system just about finished with it, and it looks very similar to the RMXP default menu (minus the stylish blue o' course :b )

Sounds pretty damn cool... I'd end up making a game in maths instead of doing Standard devation though :P
Definatly looking for some screenshots. Maybe a video?

Screenshots are coming soon (I keep forgetting to bring the friggin calculator home :b )

UPDATE: The Engine is done up to v0.63 now. Basically all that's left to do is the battle system and to finish up the menu system. I'm so close to completion that I'm contemplating my next calculator based project.(Maybe a better RPG Engine, I've been doing a little experimenting with smooth movement animation.)

As far as I remember, TI-83 is limited to basic, no ? No wonder it's slow, and pretty limited. The best I did with one was trying to do a monopoly game. I got my first TI-89 soon after ^_^

TI-89 and above have 68k chips in it, so you can do C or assembly with those, which allows you to make some nifty programs.

@rataime: Ya, Ti-89 cost more money soo... I'm gonna stick iwt my Ti83plus for now... But ya you're right. the older calcs are limited to TIBASIC. BUT, you can d/l a program so you can do assembly. Hmm, now I gotta learn assembly :)

The screenshots I'll get soon. I just tried but my camera is pissing me off so I'll do it later.

TI-83 Plus has a USB port right? If it does you could use the TI-Connect program that comes with the calculator to take a screenshot for you and distribute it when you're ready. Also, all TI-83 programs work with the TI-84 model and vise-versa.

Anyhow, I look forward to this. I've made several RPG things on my 84 calculator before :)

Actually the 83 doesn't have a usb port. You have to buy the seperate TI-connect cable and software. I have it somewhere I just can't find it at the moment :b

apparently a few of you must have been in the dark in high school or still are. The TI community has been around since the old TI-82 and maybe sooner. At first a lot of us had only programmed in TIBASIC which is about the slowest language. It was only until someone found out how to use Assembly that all the cool programs came out for the TIs. I remember the TI-85 had the drug wars game.

The TI-86 had the infamous mario and bomberbloke (bomberman). And my own calc the ,TI-92, had doom on it. Yes thats right, Doom92 baby.

but i digress....

@DemonFire read up on the TICalc.org site about assembly for the TIs. I believe it must be created on a computer and then backed up on the calculator. But by now, they have and editor probably.

If you are stuck, I have programmed a number of games that are on TICalc. I know a lot about TIBASIC and a little Assembly.

@SamusK: I know how to physically get assembly programs on the calculator, I just don't know how to program in the assembly language yet.

But about the screenshots, they'll come, but I just decided that I want to fix up some things first. But trust me, this project really does exist. How will a mock-up work for you guys?

This is the actual in-game graphics right now, I just recreated it on Graphics Gale.

ehhh, actually I'm in the middle of learining too many languages to add another one. I'm going to learn assembly later. Right now I'm learning Java, Ruby, and soon to be C and C++

I'm pretty sure it will. Unless I'm mistaken the TIBASIC language works on all of the TI's. I can tell you for almost certain that it will work in TI-84 atleast.

Oh and you guys may not remeber but I said I was already starting to think about my next project. Well, I've decided on my next project, but I'll wait to tell you guys what it is. (and it pwns this project)

The top-end TI calculators are more like PDA's that are specifically for maths. I used one in my GCSE maths exams, and my Dad's got one. They're pretty cool. Huge screen, can draw graphs and all that shiz. (In fact, I think they are "graphical calculators".)
