Dell Inspiron 6000 Problem

Alrighty, this is getting to be a real pain; my laptop frequently just turns off. I'm not saying it shuts down, it just turns off all at once, like someone pulled the plug on it. I don't really know what to think. I've ruled out overheating and a virus, and my A/C adapter should be fine.

Any ideas?

Sounds like either a faulty power supply or a faulty motherboard to me. Since it's a laptop, there's not a whole lot you can do about it. One thing you can try is making sure that the battery is getting a clean connection, since it's a laptop. Just check to make sure there's no hair or dust or anything like that either in the battery slot or on the battery's connnectors.

Other than that, you can try to take it to somebody to see if they can find something out, but sometimes even if you have the computer open and are looking at it you can't be sure what's happening.

What I can tell you is that I had a desktop that was doing the same thing. I thought "Hmm, either this power supply or this motherboard are about to die" about a month or so later, they both died.

I don't know; it hasn't went off again since I made that post so maybe the dusting it out had a delayed effect?

Power supply seems good, although it gets hot fairly easy.

I had this happen the other day, Dell Studio 1555. I know that's not much help. Did you ever manage to fix this in case this starts happening to me regularly? I might have just knocked the power button or something.

I figure it's the AC adapter port on my laptop. I just put in a battery and it stopped turning off instantly; the power was only flicking off for a moment.
