Death Note... [spoiler]!

I have just completed watching the full Death-Note ANIME series... it has got to have been the best anime I have seen. I loved the constant mind-games between L and Light, it kept the series very interesting.

But... I feel after they killed off L it got rather boring and Light seemed to slip up and lose his intuitiveness.

Ending
I thought the ending was crazy, after watching this character go through all that... and he slips up and goes crazy. I was kind of disappointed and yet at the same time satisfied.

Also I was wondering how the Manga ends, I hear it is actually quite different and would like to hear about this forums response!

(Sorry about the sloppiness of this thread, it's late and I'm not thinking too straight, I'll clean it up tomorrow if this gets good response :thumb:)

In the manga, Mikami doesnt kill himself. Mikami denounces Kira as god, and just calls him scum. Light goes mad crazy, matsuda shoots him, all that crap, e.t.c.

Light doesn't escape. He begs Ryuk for help. Ryuk says okay, and takes out his notebook. He begins to write Light's name, right in front of him. Light is all scared and dies in 40 seconds.

Epilouge, the next year, shows Matsuda explaning his theory on what happens. He thinks that when Near took the death note, he wrote Mikami's name in it so he wouldn't test the note before coming to the warehouse, because 1) He doubts Mikami/Light would make such a mistake and 2) Mikami died 10 days later in prison, by suicide (IIRC).

The other guy (Not aizawa, forgot name. Iaeda maybe) disagrees. Matsuda wonders if what they did is right, because now that Kira is gone, crime has gone up and all that. The other guy says they did the right thing, because if they did otherwise, they would be dead.

End shows a bunch of robe wearing people traveling somewhere in a big group, and praying for Kira's return.

Ahhh... so that's what happens. I guess the anime ending was better, but in the end I think L should have won.

After L dies it seemed like the rest was so laborious to watch. It also pained me to see Light from going methodical and careful to careless and crazy.

If they didn't kill off L I think it would have definitely been more interesting. RIP L

L is the only reason to watch death note. The shit with Near got boring, so I skipped to the last episode of the anime ( which actually was pretty good).

***it says spoilers in the topic title so i'm not bothering to put my post in spoilers.***

I watched all of it, I sorta want to read the manga now, though, because the shit with near WAS boring.

The stuff with near would have been a lot more interesting if they had condensed it down to like 5 episodes or so. It dragged.

I can appreciate their attempt at something bold by killing one of the two central characters in the middle of the series, but unfortunately it was a bad move :/

the worst part about the near saga were the crazy leaps of judgment he'd make (like seeing Mikami on television and instantly KNOWING he was an accomplice just because he boned Takada a while back). Plus, Light seemed a lot more sloppy in the things he did, and Misa was just totally wasted entirely (even if she didn't have the notebook anymore she could have gone all psycho bitch girlfriend on Light or they could have killed her off or something INTERESTING). Also Ryuk became almost nonexistant which was annoying because he was the shit.

The last ep I thought was pretty good. I rather like that Light just sort of snapped (all the crazy built up over the years finally was spilling out), and I like that Ryuk was the one to end him, as he said he would, in the first episode. It wrapped everything up in a satisfying way I think.

All in all, it's still the best shit to come out of Shonen Jump.

I love Death Note!

The only thing I didn't like was Melo's short lived role. He and the character with striped sleeves (I think his name is Matt, I couldn't hear that well when his name was mentioned) died too early on, and didn't make anything interesting happen except when he kidnapped Light's sister.

My friends that read the manga told me that the series had a lot more to do with melo. Whatever, I guess.

Anyone else think Mikami's death in the anime was way too ridiculous? Stabbing yourself with a pen shouldn't make blood gush out like that.

i think everything with mikami was a little too ridiculous, like the way he would write names, throwing the pen every which way. but he was pretty crazy so idk

besides a little spurt of blood isn't very exciting i guess

Sappaku for the win... plus, in the manga that doesn't happen, nor does Light running away from the situation. He just cries like a little bitch.

not at all, someone would die more than an hour later if not taken to the hospital in time... it just looked quite stupid indeed. there two things that they should have done with Near, killiing him or letting him have a hard time deducting who Kira and his accomplices were.

there's nothing to say about Misa, she's just a drunkard.

1st Half of Death Note = fantastic
2nd Half = above average but nowhere near as good.

It should have ended right after L died. There was no reason for it to go beyond that. It should have been L dies, Light wins, epilogue chapter or two, the end.

Mikami's blood pressure must have been through the roof. That pen suicide scene had me rofling for some time.

Did the real identity of the writer ever get out? I'm sort of interested in finding out who wrote it.

There was a Desu Noto film made in 06 with a sequel called "Last Name".  They were decent.  It was a little different than the show.  I forget what was changed though.  I guess a dub of LN is being released in American theaters for 2 nights in 10 days with an American remake set for 2010.

Wow, I'm surprised a lotta people came to the same conclusion I did: the second half of the story sucked.

What should've happened: Light kills L, and then becomes the supreme ruler of the universe with Misa as his vice-bitch. Then late at night he takes out a blowup doll of L and anally rapes it like Lex Luthor did to that Superman Clone in that one movie. BEST ENDING EVER!!!

Then the writer gets hired by Fox to write the next season of 24 to make it not suck anymore.
