Dawn of the Fourth Era (MMORPG)

Dawn of the Fourth Era

Game Creators: Icedmetal57, Scorpius, Ever

Dawn of the Fourth Era is an MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game) or at least will be, we hope, that takes place in the large continent of Aarde. Here you can do many things. You can fight monsters your entire life and try to be the strongest monster hunter there is, fight large dragons in a party with your friends, embark on long quests, create your own goods and become a salesman, along with many other things. Tired of walking everywhere? Travel faster by riding your trusty steed. Bored from everything else? Get a little history lesson on the continent of Aarde and discover the true meaning behind that certain statue or landmark. Tired of just being the same old warrior try out the many other classes and races. Choose from 4 base starting classes which branch off into many other character classes, and choose between 6 different races which all descended from an ancient people. Where did these races come from and why are they the way they are? Learn it about them from the many historical books found throughout the continent of Aarde. In the land of Aarde, you'll travel across vast plains, through thick jungles, across the deserted wastelands to the northeast, over large mountains with many caverns, and even to the frozen mountainous wastelands to the northwest. In Dawn of the Fourth Era you'll start off at the capital city for the race you choose at the beginning. So get going and explore the massive land of Aarde in Dawn of the Fourth Era!

A number of classes are available to the player, branching off from four starter classes:
-Fighter
-Scout
-Cleric
-Mage

A detailed list can be found here, at our wiki.

Minion
Description: A race of demon-like creatures that spawned from Tartarus, also known as the 'underworld' by a man who decided to open up the gates of Tartarus, only to be attacked by these demon-like creatures. Over the many years they eventually got weaker from being away from their homeland in Tartarus, which is why they are now short and no longer in control of the other races.
Capital City: Zim'albe (zim - al - bay)

Aarde has never known peace.  It's history has been rife with conflict, invasion, and warfare.  In the past the God-Kings of old ruled the land, only to be undone by their own lust for power when they opened the gate to Tartarus, unleashing the horror that was the Minion horde.  The Minions were considered the single greatest threat to Aarde, even after they were cast down by the subjugated races.

But now dark tidings come from the north; a shadow has fallen over the wasteland.  Vast legions of the undead have appeared--some say they are led by an ancient evil reborn.  Worse still is the spread of the Miasma, a corrupt mist that blights the landscape. It transforms animals into vicious beasts that stalk the countryside, and it emanates from fissures that have opened throughout Aarde.

Only time will tell if the races can set their differences aside and work together to combat this new threat.  In the end though it is the heroes that rise to fight this evil, who will be remembered...

NOTE: More of the story can be found at our Wiki, along with other info such as the world map and other things of that sort.

This is only a single player demo to test out everything. I have made a post on my forum asking for your feedback on everything, here's the links to the demo.

And here's that post on our forums. Clicky

Well, if you read the entire post, congratulations because it took a while to make, also, you would've realized that this is going to be a large project, which is what we're aiming for, a massively multi-player online game, sure it might not consist of thousands of players when it's completed, but we hope to get a good amount of people playing. So that comes to my next point, we're going to need help in pretty much every possible category, but the categories that we'll be needing the most help in, is sprite work, mapping, and music.  We don't necessarily need writing as most of the writing is already covered by Ever, or scripting as much except for getting the online functions to work, because currently there isn't much in them because the Netplay Plus project is on delay or some sort. If you'd like to help us out, we'd be very appreciative, please either post here or send myself, Icedmetal57 an email, I've included my E-mail address along with my AIM screen name above in-case you'd like to help or you have any questions.

Also we plan on rewarding anyone who helps us when the game is complete. For example things like special items, gold, characters, etc. depending on how much you're willing to aid us.

u wanna know why no one has spoke about this....

TO MUCH TEXT lol...

sorry but i cannot be arsed to read it. So i will not crit the game but please do make a simple version of whats above and i will read it and put all this under a "more detailed spoiler"

good luck mate :D

Too many features. Too many races. Too many classes. Too many MMORPGs on RMXP.org that will never see the daylight.

BTW, do you know that 'Aarde' is the Dutch word for Earth? You probably do. It sounds awkward to me, being Dutch, between all those English words. A bit out of place.

Well Twin Matrix, believe it or not we're actually a lot further along with this than you may believe. In fact, as further proof I might add that the majority of these features were in our first MMORPG game we released, Land of Ecthor, which DID see the light of day, and had around 100 players at its peak.

1. Action Battle System - Fully functioning.
2. Chat, Private Chat, Guild Chat, Party Chat, World Chat - Used in our last MMORPG we released, so I see no reason why it wouldn't be working.
3. Party System, Guild System - Fully functioning.
4. Server Side Map Loading - Not sure of the status of this one.
5. Server Side Saving/Loading - Again, not sure of the status of this one.
6. Trading - Not sure of the status of this one.
7. Visual Equipment - In progress.
8. Mounts - In progress.
9. Many crafting forms, Cooking, Smithing, Engineering, First-Aid, etc. - I don't believe this has been started yet.
10. Mining - Fully functioning.
11. Fishing - Fully functioning.
12. Custom Made GUI - Fully functioning.
13. Mastery Skills (Check Out Wiki for more details) - Fully functioning.
14. Summoning System - Fully functioning, just finished it the other day actually.
15. More to be added later. - Idk what else there is lol

As for the races, I know for a fact the graphics for these were finished LONG ago. I should be able to get Icedmetal57 to post these in our advertisement post.

And for the classes, we had a perfectly functioning class system in Land of Ecthor, so I don't see how this becomes a problem.

If its any more proof, you can actually check out the old forums and webpage for our last game.

If you can't be bothered to actually read the thread, I'd suggest you not post in it at all. Uninformed, pointless comments are more commonly known as spam.

We all have our skepticism and opinions on certain things, but threads like this are meant to be constructive. The tendency of RMXP MMORPGs to get mired in early development has been well documented, and doesn't need to come up each time somebody tries.

Let's all make an effort to stay on topic here.

Also, this project has in fact been very successful so far, we have had very few problems, and those problems have already been fixed when we came across them. As for all of those features, I or somebody else, has already finished them, in fact, the bottom half of them I've scripted them myself.

As for the progress of those features that Ever stated, I just need to make one fix to that, I have in fact already finished the Crafting system, which I finished quite some time ago, I probably just forgot to mention it to anyone.

Also, I will make this post shorter, for those who don't like to read as much, and will post links to the longer sections.

Actually, other than pointing out that most MMORPGs in here never see the daylight, I added the constructive critisism that I believe it has too many races, features and classes to be succesful. I merely played around with the words of my post to make it sound more fresh than 'yea, it has too many features, classes and races'. IMO, it got the point across. If (s)he would cut it down a bit it would be easier to release and easier to understand. Of course, that is up to the team that works on the game. I'd be very happy for them if their project goes on air, however, I believe that the process would be easier on them by cutting down on the previously mentioned aspects. You also missed my comment on the name 'Aarde' being a bit out-of-place sounding because it an actual word. To me, anyway, because the word comes from my language. On the other hand, Terra has been used a lot so it is original. Aardai or something would be better, IMO.

Well I admit I didn't know Aarde was an actual word, though I knew it was similar to other root words for earth (ie. Erde in german, and from there unmistakably Earth, considering english is a germanic language). Anyways I don't think its too out of place for the average person, and I believe Terra is overused in video games.

Hopefully it doesn't bother you too much lol, but I'd rather keep it as is :)

I thought this would just be another MMORPG that would never see the light of day. After reading what you've said it seems I was wrong. Looking great. Good luck and keep it up!

Aarda is taken straight from J.R.R. Tolkien. It was what Middle Earth was called in the first age. However I didn't know it meant Earth in another language. (Wait I think Tolkien only uses one A, and on second thought I think used Arda for the whole world, not just Middle-Earth). Not that it matters :P

Arda is the entire world, Middle-Earth is like the province or whatever you wanna call it where the entire Lord of The Rings trilogy and history takes place, and the name is similar to Earth's Middle-East. The region on Earth is called Middle-East because it's in the middle of the east, they could've come up with a better name for it, same thing with Middle-Earth, but then again, we did that on our own world.

As for the name Terra, I've seen that used quite often games, and never have I seen Aarde used in a game. I had no idea it meant Earth in Dutch, which is weird because I have actually been working on a language itself that was used by the ancient people, known as the Sindarion people, in which I based off of many languages such as Latin, Icelandic, Hungarian, Norwegian, Croatian, Finnish, Italian, etc. Though I do not have grammar for it, nor do I have many words in it, so its still in production, speaking of which, I should work on that some more, because I haven't worked on it in like a month.

i admit its looking good...

Im sorry about the first post about the TO MUCH TEXT... since i have been back it seems to be alot sorter and looks alot nicer.

So will your cloths/items/armor/weapons be viewable on the character or not?

also my project is thinking about (after finishing it) because of the huge complex hand drawn maps turning it into a mmorpg.

I hope it comes to relese so that i can see what a online RMXP game is really like

Well that's good then Twin Matrix. Wouldn't want to lose a potential player like that lol :)

And yes XcuMaSoft we tried to shorten it up (a little bit) so it's easier to skim through. Icedmetal57 knows more about the matter, but I believe we will have Visual Equipment in the game (ie. what you were talking about in your post). However I also know that's the main thing we need more spriters for, unfortunately.

I admire the dedication of anyone who would even think to start something like this. Times like this when I wish I was able to do all that fancy coding stuff so I could help, but good luck, I'll keep my eyes on this game.

"Bored from everything else? Get a little history lesson..."
This sentence made me laugh for hours!!! I'm not sure about other people, but when i'm bored, i don't suddenly whip out a history textbook and start reading lol!

But seriously, it looks good. I actually played LoE for a while and this game seems to have a fair amount of potential! good luck!

-Coughs- I Read all of it o.O but is there going to be Visual Equipment? And what about your mounting? Do you mean by rideing animals? I would love to Help but i dont think Mmorpgs and eventing mix o.o;; It usally is mostly scripting. I could do Consept(sp) art aswell...

(Sry If there is a Recruitment place for this)

No there is no recruitment place so I don't mind you asking here. As for what you said about mounts, that is correct you will be able to ride animals and stuff. Also, visual equipment is stated in the features list I believe, so yes it is going to be in this game.

Also, of course there isn't going to be a lot of eventing, what did you mean by that? As for concept art, we could use it, Scorpius and I planned on doing some, but if you'd like to do some, we won't mind, we're already busy with everything else.

It looks very good, but I have a doubt that any RMXP game being made into an MMORPG will be successful. Sorry to say it, but that's just my opinion.

Well we did make Land of Ecthor, which was made with RMXP and I'd say it was successful until we stopped supporting it. It had quite a lot of players in its heyday in fact, and a lot of the same concepts and features used in this game where used in that game without trouble, so don't count us out just yet ;)
