Story
The four Legendary Sages were masters of the four elements of life: Earth, Fire, Wind, and Water. One horrible night, they witnessed something they would not believe. A war broke out between their nations, using magic to fight. The Sages tried to stop them, but it was useless, for the people had already made their mind. They couldn't do anything but witness the horrible battle.

Days, weeks passed... the war continued.
In a desperate attempt to stop this nonsense, the sages decided to seal magic in hopes of stopping this and preventing any other future wars. One dark night, the sages performed a ritual to seal the four elements into crystals, and scatter them across the land, far from mankind's reach. The sealing ritual was a success, but the sages where nowhere to be found. The people will never forget the great sages' efforts.

As time passed, the continents began to search for the crystals, year after year they grew closer to finding them.

A prophecy tells that an evil being will steal the power of the crystals and use it to forge the land as he sees fit. But four brave heroes will emerge and defeat the evil before that happens, and then they must seal the crystals themselves to keep the land at peace, thus the prophecy repeats itself every 2,000 years.

And now, 2,000 years have passed since the elements of life were sealed away...

The Earth Continent: The second largest of the four. Home of the most proud warriors of the land, guided by a noble king. Gaia is believed to be the resting place of the Earth Crystal.

The Wind Continent: The smallest of the four. Consisting of six small islands surrounded by the ocean. No longer at war with the other continents. Notus, the largest of the six islands is believed to be the resting place of the Wind Crystal.

The Water Continent: The second smallest of the four, and the only nation able to practice magic. Rumors say that the water crystal has been leaking out it's power for some time. No longer wanting to be a part of the war, the Water Continent formed a peace treaty with the Wind Continent, but failed to negotiate with the Earth and Fire Continent. Naiades is believed to be the resting place of the Water Crystal.

The Fire Continent: The largest of the four. Ranging from deserts to the north pole. A nation with fierce and merciless warriors led by a king who seeks ultimate power. Hestia is believed to be the resting place of the Fire Crystal.
Up in the sky... above the ocean... you can see an island floating above. The Floating Continent. Some say there are people... who do not know the meaning of war, that live there. Legends say that the elements of destruction: Light and Dark, were created in that place. The Floating Continent is also the place which the sealing ritual took place.

-Weather: Certain weather will affect the player's stats in certain places. For example: sandstorms will affect your characters' vision (DEX), heavy rain in swamps will slow you down (AGI), the cold wind will make you weak (STR), and misterious fog will make it hard to think straight (INT). There may be other things like monsters or objects that will affect your party's stats (positively or negatively).
-Path Choices: In each chapter, you will be asked to take one of two to three paths during a cutscene. Most choices will have equal rewards at the end, while some will have better rewards than the other choice.
-Save Books: You can save anywhere in a town, but you can't save anywhere else. That's where save books come in. Some save books will heal your party, while others will dissappear when used once.

Who hasn't seen this before? Honestly? Elements? Warring nations? Hmmm....I don't know. This could possible be the most unique storyline ever made.

Sarcasm aside, I feel very let down. You presented it well, but the premise is, well, poor. Overused. Bland. Boring. Cliche, etc. Tweak it, give it less "elemental" and "crystal" and "???? hero" bullshit, and edit your post.

I noticed that you spelled "I" "i" and "Deserts" "Desserts", though--unless the fire nation is full of sugar! Good luck with that. Also take a peek into Tangerine Man's sayings...
Hm, once I had an idea much like this (but for VX), only the main hero had an unknown identity and came many years before the actual war, then got the option to choose his elem. alignment...

Ouch.

First, I suggest reading this : http://project-apollo.net/text/rpg.html

Second, don't use Gloria, Hilda and Arshes (yeah, Mr.???? won't pull it off). I'm surprised no has commented on this. It's the number-one don't-do of RMXP, it flushes out whatever little originality this project had. Everybody knows them, everbody is sick of them. Only Basil is the one man out here.

And as mentionned before, it would be for the best if you follow a few mapping tutorials found around the forums.

Forgot to mention you can name the hero later in the game.
As for the story...
I know it's cliche and way overused but most of the projects i seen on websites with similar story (not just this one) are often executed poorly.
And i've yet to add more info on the nations.
Thanks for the presentation points though, i'll make sure to tweak the story.

I agree, but I don't automatically call a game bad just because they used that particular sprite.

Basil, however, is awesome.  Use Basil instead and you'll get less hate-comments.

Well, that's what you always do to a mystery hero, so their point was still legitimate.
...also (not to this producer but to the commenters) what's the deal with Basil?

Basil was the sprite used in Lucid Awakening, so I guess people generally relate him to that.  At least, that's the case with me (and Lucid Awakening was awesome.)

My biggest criticism is that you've pretty much ripped off Avatar: the last Airbender in terms of the whole "book" thing and the four nations thing. I would definitely try to come up with something else. It's blatantly from avatar. :/

At least they don't got crystals. :pika: Can't forget the crystals! Never forget the crystals!!!
But of course you're right... why didn't I see that before, I wonder...

Lucid Awakening
?
(lemme guess, a very non-fail game here on RMXP?)

Look around on the Completed Games board.  It kind of stand out as the few games that actually say "FULL GAME" in the thread title.
Definitely play it.

On topic:

Slasha's got a point.  Didn't realize at first.  So, here's what you do:

Revise Story
Use different sprites
Lrn2map

The Result
HAPPINESS!

Thanks for your criticism guys, you all have valid points. (especially J.D. Slash, honestly a:tla was the last thing on my mind when i wrote the story.)

I am to change some of the story but i'm keeping the continents (formerly know as nations) and crystals.
I decided to go with the grain on this one.

Oh yeah, no kidding. Who thinks of that as they write?

If-a I must...

Well, just change a few things..the names...the word crystal by talisman or something...and other common terms...and you'll see a 150% improvement. That, without even redoing anything. It's allright to have the sprite, or even the name, but not both.

Well i could change it to 'relic' or 'gem', i think relic will do, what about you guys?
I'm also renaming the two female characters.

EDIT: UPDATE:
-Added 'The Floating Continent' and updated the 'Features' section.
-Changed the female main characters' names.
