creating game demo problems

Hi i've created a small demo of my game, first few areas, I deleted all other stuff that
was used on maps after the few areas as to drop the file size for download.. but..
when i create the "encrypted archive" the game packs it all up like it should BUT when
you try to extract it all from the encrypted archive file the extracting bar stops and it
goes into a "NON-Responding", basically it crashes the extraction..

any idea why this is happening?

I was hoping to get my demo up today but i dnt want to release a demo that
people can edit the maps.. take the graphics.. ect. A quick response would be
VERY much appreciated on this.. got a LOT of people waiting to play my demo.

Thanks ppl.

p.s. before you ask.. its nothing to do with everything i deleted that the demo maps were
not using cos i play tested the entire demo and there was no problems.

Can you open the .exe file with winzip, winrar, 7zip? Are there any missing files or 0 size files?
Can someone else execute/extract the file?
What is the total size of your project folder?

it's not in a zip file.. when you build your game it turns into a .exe file..
(the orange star with 4 green arrows), you click this and it extracts the
archived game onto your computer to play.. it starts to extract and then
the extract process fails..a screen pops up saying "extract process failed"
it usually happens when it gets to the extracting part of the extraction -
"game.rgssad".

You can open a Self-Extracting Zip (.exe) file with winzip, try it (and you don't have to rename it). :scruff:
If you don't have an association for .exe files with winzip, you have to start winzip, then "Open Archive", but it will open.
The easiest solution is to remove the audio folder (usually the culprit that puts it over 120MB, which I think is the limit),
compress your game, then open the .exe with winzip and manually add the audio folder back in.

N.E.Way, glad you got it sorted.

Be Well

Hi.. so i figured out the problem with encryoting the demo but now theres another
problem.. the game wont start in the encrypted folder. I click the orange sun thing
to start the game and it does nothing whatsoever, no failed to load popup, even tried
running it compatability xp serv.pack 2.. and run as admin.. still nothing at all.. Any ideas?
if i knew rmxp was gonna cause so many problems with playing a game i wouldnt have
even bothered with it, just a shame to throw my project away after all this wrk on it.

heres a link to the demo if you want to dwnload and see for urself whats happening.

1) You have double copies of everything in that zip file. (one in the zip file, and another in the self-extracting zip (.exe) in the zip file) making your file twice as large as it needs to be.

2) rename CDK-RPG - DEMO V1.exe to Game.exe and it should play fine.

What I meant was.... (To get around the 120mb limit in RMXP)
Move the Audio folder OUTSIDE of your project folder
Compress/Encrypt your game from RMXP
Start Winzip
Open the resulting .exe file (It is just a .zip file with a .exe extension. ((and a self-extractor)) )
Add the Audio folder to the Archive
Save the Archive
