Everything moves. Whether its by voluntary forces such as running and the movement of your body or leaves rustling in the wind; everything moves. Its only natural that things grow and function. Animation is something often not used, however it can create a dynamic scene or even a simple function
What are the challenges this week?
Participate in challenges pertaining to animation and motion which coincide with one of the three themes!
I can't do the above?
There are other ways to gain points like participation points (critiquing others' work). But give it your best anyway-- you can't improve unless you try, and some points are better than none!
This week's challenges are:
- Animated scene, movie, or sequence involving theme. Can be done with Flash or any animation or video-editing software. Must provide movie in .html, .swf, .avi, or .mov format, or upload to Youtube or Google Video (note that picture quality counts, so be careful with uploading to these sites). Sound(s), song(s), & images can be non-original, but you must credit artist(s). Score based on impressiveness, visual quality, adherence to theme, timing/pacing, scene content. Interactivity may generate bonus points, based on level of interactivity.
Points: 40
- Music video (involving theme), featuring an original song. Song must be one you've created, but it can be one you made in the past. Can be done with Flash or any animation or video-editing software. Must provide movie in .html, .swf, .avi, or .mov format, or upload to Youtube or Google Video (note that picture quality counts, so be careful with uploading to these sites). Score based on impressiveness, visual/sound quality, adherence to theme, timing/pacing, scene content.
Possible Points: 35
- Storyboard, or comic of a story, involving theme. Can be funny or serious, but must have a clear beginning, middle, & end. You can draw it, or you can use images you found on the internet (cut-and-pasted in small bits, collage-style). Score based on impressiveness, quality of art/design, adherence to theme, story content, scene content.
Possible Points: 25 per 15 full-color or fully-shaded panels, or 30 black & white panels.
- Animated sprite(s) or pixel art, based on theme. Can be in .gif or animated .png formats. Can be anything that moves, from a person, to a toaster, to a kitty, to a burning fire, etc. Can also be a small scene. Must consist of atleast 16 frames. Sprite must be original. Existing/ripped sprite templates CAN be used, but you will be docked 10 points. Max colors: 16. Score based on length of animation (number of frames--over 100 non-filler frames will net +5 bonus points), impressiveness, movement quality, visual quality/mastery of skill, palette use/techniques, adherence to theme, visual content.
Possible Points: 15 per "small" (about 16x16 or 24x24) sprite
30 per "large" (~48x48pix+) sprite.
Again, every submission must relate to at least one of the three themes.
You are expected to submit quality work. We may or may not accept submissions depending on what you turn in. Forum rules apply to contest. Best submission of this week earns 10 bonus points. Second place earns 5. Remember to critique.
What are bonus points?
Bonus points are points awarded for certain accomplishments. These include: best submission of the week (staff pick), and best submission overall.
What are participation points?
Participation points are an alternative solution to the participating in the contest. Instead of having a contest board with all the submissions posted together, you instead post in the corresponding board: art goes in art board, music goes in music board, etc. When posted, members are allowed to critique your work which allows them to earn participation points if their critique is well thought out.
What defines a good critique?
A good critique is a critique that is around a few good sentences that not only go in depth in explaining what, but also bring up new, solid points as well. This includes leetspeak and spelling. Make sure to sound educated when giving a critique.
Can I submit as many submissions as I want?
Yes. And you may also submit for the same challenge as well.
Please submit works in the corresponding boards: art with visual art board, pixel art in pixel art board, etc. Make sure to post links of the submissions here in this thread. Use Sub topic icon when submitting. Failure to abide may result in submission being void. Once submitted you may not change the submission. Do not make separate threads for WIPS and submissions.
My question was not answered what do I do?
Post in this thread and ask.
Are there any other alternatives?
You can PM bacon and we will answer it as soon as possible.
When does it end?
Friday, January 21st . Days were added because I felt like it o;.
