Crashing with Pitch Changes. [XP]

Hello there! Since I first downloaded RPG Maker, a while ago, I've had trouble with it crashing if the pitch of a sound effect, music, whatever, is changed. I've tried reinstalling, redoing my sound drivers... Whatever I could think of, but nothing has worked yet. If anyone has any advice, it'd be very much appreciated, as I can barely play any other games, nor manage to get the sounds how I'd like them in mine. Thank you for your time!

I already had a similar problem (blue screen when playing sound with a non default pitch), I don't know how to fix it but I know how to avoid it.
In fact I realized that it happened only with 48kHz files, so if it's the same for you you may try to recompress them in 44kHz.

blue screen on different pitches of sounds?
Bizarre. I would suggest a hardware solution of buy a new sound card.

Details on your computer please?
What OS + version (XP sp2,sp3,vista sp1, 7, etc)
Hardware type (Desktop, Laptop, Netbook)
RPG Maker RGSS version (100e, 104e, e could be a j if it's the japanese version)
If you can find out, tell us your soundcard model, manufacturer, and any dates on how old it is and your machine.

I'm guessing this happens with every sound file no matter what format or codec as you said it happens with every game you try let alone create.

Yeah, I tried changing it to 44kHz, and still crashed.

OS: Windows XP Home Edition. Version 2002, Service Pack 2.
Desktop.
I'm not sure where exactly to find the RGSS Version, but in the properties I found RPG Maker, at least, is version 1.0.4.0 if that helps.
I think my card is a DIAMOND XtremeSound 5.1/16 bit Sound Card, and I've had it... For around a year or two I believe.
My computer is a Dell Dimension 4700 that I've had for about 6 years or so now.

Dell Dimensions have absolutely CRAZY hardware under it. My first gaming PC was a Dell Dimension, it was a nightmare. Just upgrading the GPU required me to hack-saw the back panel to pieces and rip it up to install a new PSU before slotting in an AGP graphics card.
That machine BSOD'd on me constantly, from experience I'm going to start off by blaming your machine, however logically it would be the sound card. Have you tried disabling the sound card and running it through the board's card?
Have you also disabled all sound capabilities entirely and tried running the audio file?

It seems like it's some odd combination of my sound card, and RPG Maker. I tried changing pitch in Audacity, for the hell of it, and nothing happened. When I got the on board sound card working, it wouldn't crash. Though I couldn't get any actual sound from it either... Looks like I might want to start looking for a new computer sooner rather than later. Thanks for the help at least though. ^_^.
