The other day I was browsing the Internet and saw an advertisement for this:
Based on a novella by Neil Gaiman that was published in 2002, Coraline tells the story of an 11 year old girl who moves into a new home with her parents and finds a secret door into an alternate reality, sort of like Alice in Wonderland. The new world is kind of like a more exciting and less dull version of her own life. Soon though, she discovers everything is not as it seems as she becomes a prisoner in this alternate reality to her "Other Mother" and has to find out a way to get back to her own world.
The film is being made in stop motion animation and is scheduled to be released on February 6. I'm really looking forward to this movie. I love the kind of style and surrealism it has, and the animation looks top notch. I don't usually look forward to movies, especially not animation, but for some reason I really want to see this. It's being directed by Henry Selick, and the voice of Coraline is being done by Dakota Fanning, whom I don't usually like but sounds really good in this movie.
Anyone else looking forward to this? I've seen the book before but never read it. Apparently it's really good and it's received many awards. The animation style really appeals to me though, and I just love the way the characters are done.
Here are some photos of the film:
For some reason I really like this picture. I don't know why, maybe it's just the character's expressions and the normalness of it all.
Coraline and another character, I think his name's Wybie. All the characters in this alternate reality have buttons for eyes.
Coraline heading to the alternate reality. This reminds me of a movie I liked as a kid, James and the Giant Peach.
The alternate Dad-boring in real life, but a singer in the alternate reality.
The "Other Mother" in the alternate reality, from my understanding she is the main antagonist. Reminds me of a spider.
