Considering Becoming Christian

Now as the title says I'm considering becoming Christian. Why you ask? Because today I finished reading revelations and oh my god it's of the greatest pieces of literature I have EVER read! I also finished reading the Testament of Solomon and I know more towards Judaism but it's closely related really. Now I find all the things that are involved in Christianity to be very interesting and somewhat believable. Now, I'm not saying I actually BELIEVE in it but I just find it INCREDIBLY interesting. Is wrong to be Christian if I don't actually believe in what it preaches? I'll make a decision based on what our religious friends say.

Technically it is wrong to go threw the process of being a member of a faith, just because it's interesting. Christianity like almost all religions isn't something one can simply say you are one, and doing so simply make it true. There's steps to take, to be fully recognized.

But if all this is, truly, is an interest then just explore it. Read up on it, and see what you can. And if you find yourself believing in something, then by all means whatever it is be as much apart of it as you want. Would you, if you ended up reading a good book, go out and prescribe to the beliefs of the writer, the deep philosophical and theological bargains of said writer, just because it's a good book. No.

But a religion is built on faiths, these deep philosophical and theological aspects, and if you don't have the faith you don't have religion. I was raised in a branch of Christianity, but that doesn't make me a Christian, because I don't have faith.

haha what is this a joke or something.

you dont just wake up one day and go I THINK ILL BE A CHRISTIAN.

its possible to study the bible without being christian at all. i take a lot of biblical study classes and i find it really interesting- hell i know more about the religion than most of the people who practice it- but im pretty far from being a christian.

If you find it interesting, just study it, maybe take some college religion classes (they just teach you about the various religions, they don't try to convert you or anything).

There's nothing wrong with finding the Bible fascinating. It's fairly well written in some parts and some of the stories are interesting. The old testament in particular has a lot of really violent stories and twisted parables about things like incest and human sacrifice (not figuratively. literally). It's no different than being fascinated by greek or norse mythology.

Most of the sermonizing that people think comes from the Bible, actually come from preachers/priests spouting their opinions and then trying to use the Bible to justify/validate their opinions, anyway.

Well...I've read Mein Kampf and consider it to be one of the greatest pieces of literature out there but I don't think I'll become a Nazi.

(Side note: Before you judge me for reading Mein Kampf, have a go at it and give the book a chance. Getting into the mind of one of the world's most hated and feared rulers is quite intriguing.)

I find it disrespectful to any religion to simply "do it" because it's fascinating.

If you find it believable, check out the numerous other religious stories that came before it with the EXACT same plot (virgin birth, messiah, twelve disciples, son of god, betrayed by person close to him, executed, rebirth, yada yada yada).
