[Concept]Felos's Vengeance

Felos's Vengeance
A Lunar Plague Production

What began as a plight for knowledge quickly blew up into something much more. A man most powerful had invaded the borders of Iano and Dion. His voice held reason that even the most intuitive could not doubt. He was their messiah, their bringer of light. But he was a man lost, his past unknown even to him. The dark recesses of his mind were blank, and he only begged the Immortals could tell him of his past. But when it came to be that his past became knowledge, his fury was one unrivaled. He was the twisted creation of two Immortals, cast onto the Donari in hopes the Immortals could hide their shame. He was unwanted, unloved, and denied his rightful place in the Immortal Plane. He used his word to cause countries to crumble. Civil war broke out in Dion, all under his control. Malice reigned supreme, and Dion was crumbling in on itself. Iano pulled all its trade from the continent, hoping to stay out of this strange war.

Amongst those fighting were Alex and Vincent, two warriors dedicated to the well being of Dion. Though they tried, their efforts were nothing compared to the might of Gihg, Dion's ultimate demise. Gihg defeated both of them in the end, but their trials were not in vain. The great lord, Gihg, whose word has started Dion's slow, torturous fate, was slowly being torn between his Demonic and Angellic origins. His body was falling apart, his spirit ripping in two. His only choice remaining was to hide whilst Dion slowly wasted away.

I am Felos, son of Gihg. During his time on Dion, he impregnated an elven woman, ultimately resulting in me. Whether it was true love or rape, I'll never know. Dion's slow disintegration has destroyed my friends, family, and home. I have nothing left. I must stop Dion's demise, or in the least, destroy its cause. I'm ready to confront my father.

Felos's Vengeance follows the story of Felos, a character spoken of, but unseen, in the unreleased Donari games (Off-topic: Lol, I know. Since they were unreleased you don't care about them. To tell you the truth, I got into Game Maker, and lost interest in the Donari games for some time. At that point, the Olibal team broke up, and now I'm left to work on Donari Chronicles all on my lonesome). He is, as stated, the son of Gihg, the main antagonist from said, "unreleased Donari Games". His path of vengeance is that of a pure origin. He wants his country set back to the way it was before civil war broke out. In the process, he hopes to kill Gihg, for starting this whole mess in the first place. Being a game about Felos means the majority of the game leaves you with Felos alone as a party. He doesn't work well with others. That's not to say that other people will not be involved in the story, but mainly he does all the fighting.

Of course, that is all concept. More party members can be designed, but I'm not just going to throw in fillers. If there are more party members, it will be because they serve a purpose to the storyline, not just because I want a character for Felos to interact with.

Back on topic, we have Gihg. The mentioned "Alex" and "Vincent" were the protagonists from the planned Donari games. Alex starred in Silver Chronicles, where, in the end he drove his soul energy into Gihg, ultimately killing himself, and breaking the link between Gihg's Demonic and Angellic spirits. He broke Gihg's spirit in two. Vincent was the main character in "Betrayal of Gods", where a mortal had gained the power to kill Immortals, and broke out into a rampage, killing on God after another. Vincent ventured out with a scouting party, ultimately ending up finding out the he himself was the Betrayer, and was being possesed by his Immortal father, Kayne. Kayne had been using Vincent's body as a vessel, for which to get vengeance on the other Immortals for having locked him away in the Abyss for having a half-mortal son with a mortal woman. Vincent faced off with Kayne, or more, his Immortal half. By destroying him, Vincent had ripped the barrier between the Demonic world and the Mortal Plane open. This, in turn, weakened Gihg even more, because his demonic half, Arches, was trying to find its original body. Gihg was forced to go into hiding because he was afraid of what Arches could do.

Well, now I've filled you in on the Donari games. Hopefully, Felos's Vengeance will make more sense to you now.

I don't have a fancy title screen yet, but I have a few other screenies:

If anyone knows any of the artists who made any characters (especially that pic in the first one), tell me. I'd love to add them in the credits. I found these in my pic folder, and I don't remember who they belong to.

Well, hit me with the best ya got.

Some features included in the game:
  • Quest System
  • Crafting
  • Terros
  • Monsters are seen, not random
  • Vast dungeons to explore
  • Dion at your control

Quest System

The quest system is built much like you'd expect. Certain NPC's will give you a task to do, and it will become listed in your menu until it is completed. Quests are your main source of good loot, weapons, armor, and experience. You will fare much better if you quest a lot. Not to mention that many things are unattainable unless you do certain quests. The main game does not utilize the quest system. It runs on its own. Everything in the quest menu is a sub-plot to the game.

Crafting

Ah yes, the greatest of past times. You can utilize the various regeants found in the game and craft new things with them. Potions, Medicine, Weapons, Armor, even some quest items can only be found in your own crafting. NPC's will sell you formulas from which you can gain a new Crafting Recipe from. Some items for crafting are extremely rare. Crafted items are amongst the most profitable items in the game.

Terros

A wandering merchant, he travels from city to city, foraging items to sell to the next. At first glance, this man is your run-of-the-mill merchant. However, as you progress through the game, you'll find his stocks change a bit. Depending on your buy/sell ratio, Terros may get better or worse items. If you constantly sell to him, he will be forced to get weaker items. However, if you pour money in his direction, he will be able to get better items (some of them available only from him). If you plan on utilizing the Crafting system, and push it to its fullest extent, you'd better be pouring money in this man's direction.

Dion at your control

The continent of Dion will ultimately change based on how you play through the game. What does this mean? In all essence, it means multiple endings to the game. There, I said it in its most basic form.

The Spoiler Below Features a Quest in the Game. Giving you a sneak peak as to what you will do for one of the most powerful armors in the game! Can you resist?

As a favor to some of you, I may reveal something epic about the game from time to time in a spoiler. In this one, I will show you how to attain the Breastplate of Vak'Narul (2nd Most Powerful in the Game), which is available only through Crafting. The recipe is not purchased, but gained from the Vak'Narul must be Vanquished quest. The recipe includes:

Gold Ingot x 20
Araz Desert Cactus Flower x 10
Utopian Pearl x 2
Blood of Terith Zealot x 5
Vak'Narul's Ribcage x 1

Gold Ingots are mined mostly in the southern Araz Desert. Though they do randomly appear in Harth's Edge, Ballod Mines, and Vak'Narul's Fortress. You need at least 100 Mining Skill to harvest them.

Araz Desert Cactus Flowers are found on the cacti hidden in Ori Sludgeball's cavern.

Utopian Pearls, probably the second toughest thing to get, are found only in Grom's Demi-God Altar. Amongst the savage beasts that lurk in the blackened fields of this area are two angels that bear the pearls only to those seeking them (a.k.a. you have to have the recipe first).

Blood of Terith Zealots are dropped randomly in battle by, who else, Terith Zealots. They are in the Cathedral of Terith, a Demi-God that fell to Kayne's will.

Vak'Narul's Ribcage should be the first piece of this puzzle you get. You have to get this before you even get the recipe anyway. Vak'Narul is an epic creature. His minions will not attack you whilst you wander about his fortress, but he will try you before attempting to do battle. You must defeat 3 waves of 4 Minions of Vak'Narul (2875 HP apiece). After that, he will restore your HP and take you on. Be wary, he has 42000 HP, and spells that will strike you with multiple ailments at once. You'll have to refer to the guide that will be included with the game for an in depth battle guide. However, upon defeat, he will drop his ribcage, and you can meander on back to Gog the Mighty to cash in your quest. There, you will get the recipe.

That is the first of my spoilers! (I wrote it down in concept a few hours ago, actually wondering what you guys think).

Side Note: I'm aware that I'm using Gaia Online graphics for the battlers. Its the best available to me, unless someone can make battlers like the guy in the first screenshot.

Well, this looks pretty good. I don't see any glaring errors or inconsistancies in the plot, and none of the characters appear to have unrealistic motivations.

A few questions, possibly to get you thinking, although you might already have this all figured out...

1. You say Felos is the son of Gigh and an Elven woman. Who raised Felos? Unless his mother died in childbirth, he would know more of her side of the story than his father's...

2. Does Felos have any memory of Dion before its destruction? If not, why does he want it restored? Is it because he desires what he never had, because he is a big "family man" and wants to bear offspring in the city of his ancestors, or what?

3. Is there any redemption planned for Gihg? It'd be interesting for the player's actions with Felos to determine how Gihg reacts during the confrontation, whether with anger, remorse, or even jealousy...

I don't know if any of this is helpful, but I hope so. You have an excellent start here, and I really look forward to seeing where you go with it...

Peace!

(Oh, and if you have a minute, could you offer similar feedback-- or even check out the demo-- of my own game? I'd really appreciate it; the link's in my sig. No pressure, though).

Any specific plans on when a demo might be released? Do you have any ideas on the other characters? I'd love to hear what you've got!

Great work so far!

Felos was raised by his mother for a few years before the civil war tore his home apart. He isn't aware if his mother is alive or not. She was drafted for war by the Barroth Kingdom and Felos was placed in an orphanage. He never saw her again, but that doesn't necessarily mean she's dead.

Dion was a vastly prosperous land. The people that lived there thrived very well, and required very little resources out of its own borders. What it needed was supplied by Iano. His ultimate goal is to restore Dion to its former glory, being a boy raised by a kingdom that taught about pride in your history. He was raised in Barroth by soldiers that ran the orphanage.

Unfortunately, I can't fully answer this one. I hope you already understand why.
