Computer - An inanimate object charset.

Many moons ago, I was creating a futuristic game with Mech's and computers and things and stuff. Here's a computer I made after searching for hours for something of similar type and quality. I have many more "things" of this type that I made while I was trying to get this game together. I just don't know where everything else is at the moment - or if I'll ever find it. Its pretty basic; let me know what you think. Feel free to use it.

Hmm.. there's actually quite a bit you can improve on here. I'll make a list and show ya an example :]

-The objects have no outlines at all, any time you sprite anything you should make sure it has an outline to make it stand out more. Without outlines everything looks all mushed together.
-Your perspective is off. Since RMXP games are usually top down you need to show a bit of the top of the monitor. Even if it's a flat screen(which I believe this is) there's still a top to it. The top should also be a much lighter color than the front. Which brings me to my next point.
-Your palettes. For one they lack contrast, two there's too many shades, and 3 they're flat. This is an easy one, just pick less colors which are farther apart. To get rid of the flatness just tint your shadows violet and your highlights yellow.
-Lastly is just shading errors. Your shading actually wasn't too bad, the monitor should cast a small shadow on the base and you'd have to adjust the front a bit after you add on the top but that's about it. Check out my edit to see what I mean:

Thanks Panda; you're comments defiantly pointed out some things I didn't initially notice - specifically the shading. I did an outline for it originally but found that it lost the "Flat-screen" effect. I also wasn't using the default chip sets/char sets at the time; and was doing most of my own sprites. They we're all very, Very basic but they did fit the style.

Found a front and back profile of one of my sprites;

Hmm again, your palette is probably tour biggest problem. You need to add more contrast between your colors so that they don't seem so flat. For example:

See how my colors kinda "pop" more than yours do? Yours are so close together that you can barely see the shading.
Don't worry though, almost everybody does this at first. All's you have to do to fix it is try to use colors that are farther apart in the color picker. ^_^

Heh, your edit is cool.
I don't think I'm going to go back and re-edit my old sprites because I'm focusing on my new game; but I'm glad I uploaded them, I wasn't expecting such useful information. I'll be sure to apply a better palette to my works; that character sprite was my first real attempt at pixel art.
I just noticed you also moved the proportions in the arms and legs slightly. It looks good. Was there a technical basis for it or was it artistic intuition?

Thanks again for your interest, I'm always glad to get something out of my errors.

Glad that I could help ^_^ Make sure to post your some sprites from your new game when you finish em so we can see how you improve!
And it was more of an artistic thing, I just thought it looked better for the wrists and ankles to look a little smaller than they were :]
