Composer Available: Want your game to sound like Secret of Mana, FF6?

The classic Console RPGs had soundtracks as good as the plot, graphics and gameplay. This great music helped create the atmosphere that made these games so amazing. I can provide you 100% original high quality MIDI or MP3 for as little as $5 a track, and even lower prices for buying 5 or more. All tracks are created to YOUR specific gaming needs and request.

To hear some samples of my work check out:

I'll be creating FREE 30 second MIDIs for anyone who requests (suitable for Game Over music, Victory music, Inn Interlude, Intro Title Song, etc). Send me a private message or email at jratterree@sbcglobal.net if you want to work together.

Most of these are simple, beginner tracks. I don't know who he's fooling about being in the rpg scene since '90, but I'd expect better work as 30-second examples, especially if it's for a sum, and that you're stating that it sounds similar to masterful OST's like SoM and FF6.

Not bad. Some of these tracks are cool! But some of the instrumentation and orchestration, mixing etc. is a little weird sounding.  $5 a track is REALLY REALLY cheap, but most people here manage to find someone willing to do full tracks for free, not just samples. Now there's nothing wrong with using Classic RPG sort of synths in your games, and that's a good thing - but GM-ish is never a good thing. You can still get the classic feel with better sounds.

My only problem is if you're going to try and compare yourself to Uematsu  - you might want to get some more chord progressions happening. Nobuo Uematsu is a very melodic man, especially his work on the FF6 score. There is nothing wrong with having a melody over the one chord thing, the pedal - but I was expecting to hear some progressions eventually - perhaps give more than demos on your website so we can see what a full track would sound like. From these demos, I don't feel any emotion in the tracks -this could be because you have just given demos and not full tracks. For example the moonlight track - where's the rest of it? I like what it does so far - but you need to show us the rest!

Anyway good luck! $5 is very low as I said, considering standard rates are hundreds and sometimes thousands above that figure, but at this particular forum, you'll be pushed to get even that, due to the many free composers. Gamedev might give you more of a bite.

But I do suggest you look into your synths - upgrade them and get a higher quality sound - just be careful about which ones you use and you can still keep the classic RPG sound.

Shizu, I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt that most of your animosity is because I am charging. Thats fine, I know some people will feel that way. I am only charging to further my hobby, buy some better synths, keep going especially if there is a demand. And as Chris said, $5 is a bargain, especially if you want to build a game and have no ability to create original music that specifically fits the mood of your game. I already have some paying developers who are more than happy with what I've made for them. Especially in mobile games where they are mostly limited to MIDI anyways.

And my site says I was active DURING the 90's, not since the 90's I'm not claiming to be an expert composer or industry leader here.

As for saying that is 'beginner', well my style is meant to be minimalist, to fit the mood of the game, not to show off every bit of technical expertise I can muster. I see from your site you are a musician (i couldnt get the mp3s links to play and didnt have time to download the big zips so I havent heard you, but the site looks good), so I'd happily accept whatever *constructive* criticism you have to offer.

But I'm more happy to hear someone who says they don't know much about the technical side of music say they like my songs, because I want the average gamer to feel the song fits the mood.

And Chris you are totally right, I will update some of the samples, the songs do have more parts, I just dont want to give everything away, but then again, I am selling myself, so I guess I should!

Does that explain why, for instance, your battle theme doesn't have an actual tune? From what I hear, either you're taking the "minimalist" thing too far or chose a bad spot to sample, because to me it sounds like a couple of simple looping melodies mashed together, and the result isn't very interesting; it's the sort of thing that people can get by fiddling around with the default stuff on Garageband, albeit you probably made the short melodies yourself.
