co-op games

soph and i really want to play more video games together. but you know, non-online co-op games are becoming really few & far between. I miss just sitting down and jumping into games like Golden Axe and being able to play with another person in the same room. I'd much rather play with someone next to me than someone over the internet.

For instance, the recent Ghostbusters game--there were SO MANY sequences in that game which involved the help of a fellow ghostbuster. Why is it impossible to play as them?

RE5 was a blast with 2 people. Left 4 Dead was great too. We don't have a PS3 or Wii, but I know of a few on there. I'd play Little Big Planet w/ him but again, no PS3 :/. Fighting and racing games are obvious but they get old fast.

Anyone have any recommendations for non-racing, non-fighting co-op games that don't require you to be online, or own multiple machines, to do it? I mean, in the campaign mode. Stupid extra minigames don't count.

Try out Sacred 2 Fallen Angels. It has two player co-op offline. Its a dungeon crawling RPG. World Map is 22 square miles... if you do lots of sidequests it should take you about 40 hours to beat

There's Zombie Apocalypse as well. It's a survival game, obviously. It's an aerial view of your guy (or girl el oh el), and you just run around shooting zombies all day, all long. The game definitely gets progressively harder as you get further into it. I managed to do 18 days (levels) with a friend before we succumbed to the zombies.

If you have a PS2 still, the Champions of Norrath games are worth a play. They're a hack and slash like Sacred 2. It has some cool races and basic character building.

The best time I ever had playing a multiplayer game was with the original Crystal Chronicles and Four Swords Adventures, though admittedly this requires a GC/Wii and enough GBAs for each player.

On the other hand, the normal-battery GBAs go for like $10-20 nowadays--cheaper than any new-fangled controller you'll ever find, and who, out of those of us who grew up on the SNES or late in the NES era, didn't own one at some time or another?

If you still own an N64, you must play Perfect Dark's Co-operative and Counter-operative modes.

Co-operative mode is as it sounds: take an AI or a friend and try to complete the missions together.

Counter-operative allows you and a friend to go head-to-head, with one player trying to accomplish mission tasks while the other player takes the mantle of one of the enemy soldiers in the level, who's trying to stop you. His main advantage is that he respawns as a different guard each time he dies. He's only as powerful as the guards, though, so you'll probably mow through him a couple of times. Your main advantage is that you're tough enough. You can only die, once though.

Also, the Co-op and Counter-op modes use regular missions from single player with no modifications.

Oh, Castle Crashers on the 360. I'm not such a huge fan of button mashers, but that one is so damn fun. You can level up and improve stats, too!

Get Fable 2, its a great game and the second person can join at any time, the only thing is the second person can't save there character, thats on Xbox, or you could try Halo 3 and ODST, Halo 3 allows you to play online with a second controller, I've done it, and ODST, you can do firefight where you just shoot wave after wave of aliens or play through the campaign!

If your thinking of trying it, Halo 3 ODST comes with the Odst campaign, fire fight and Halo 3 multiplayer, so if you want to play through the Co-op on halo 3 then you have to buy halo 3 otherwise if you just want to play online get odst!
