Cloning

Well, we have cloned pretty bunch of animals, but what do you think: will we accomplish in cloning a man?

I think it will be possible, even though it will take loads of time. To me, it does sound more "sane" than developing a time travel...

Also, what's the point in cloning a man? More people to the planet? Aren't we humans spreading pretty fast already?

If we do manage to clone a man, it would raise a quite noise, sure. I wonder what the pope would say about it if we managed to "play a god", even for a short time...

At very least, it would be useful for the same reason stem cells are usefull. Cancer of the spine? CLONED!

Bad leg?

CLONED!

Genetic Disease?

...

Sucks to be you, I guess.

I'm taking a "Wait and see" stance with cloning. I'm not actually morally against it, which may come as a shock to some people, but depending on how it works out, I may be ethically against it.

The main point is cloning organs and i must say if that techique is perfected it would help like hell.

But im not sure about a clone army like in star wars...8-)8-)8-)8-)8-)8-)8-)8-)8-)8-)8-)8-)8-)8-)8-)8-)8-)8-)8-)8-)8-)8-)8-)8-)8-)8-)

Amputated leg? Yeah we can fix that. But now, if you've pre-cloned you could have a leg that actually matches yours. We could create designer legs. Eyes for the blind in any true facet of plausible attainable color. Daddy can have that liver he's been wanting for Christmas. Mommy can have a boob job that's actually 100% natural. The next guy to get his little friend amputated doesn't have to have a freaky kind of surgery - here's a brand new winky, new and improved.

They claim cancer can be cured. I dunno - if so then we should be already cloning by now.

Morale questions? I see none.
Clone army? Never happen. Unless it becomes cheaper to actually clone, age, train and equip clones who would - in theory - be exactly identical to their model number (let's face it, it wouldn't be just one guy being cloned, but rather several hundred at least), as opposed simply having to afford to train and equip willing volunteers who are vastly different with more variables than you could count, it just isn't feasible. That and human life is to precious not to throw away.

As for whole persons - simply put, why would people even want to do that?

As sixtyandaquarter mentioned, cloning would be too expensive, so only rich people could afford it. I don't see any moral questions untill a whole living human is cloned.

Being able to clone a defective body part is about the extent of cloning that I agree too.

Yeah, if you have heart/lung cancer, replacing the heart/lung while its still localized would be wonderful. Infact, it may let us cheat death for 10-15 more years. But cloning entire humans? That's really just stupid. I sincerely doubt they would ever do that.

Cheap organs. No more waiting for that kidney!
Yeah, but even clones are people, they are not different of what I think, so they will have to say something about their life too.

And who are you to rebuke that? The goal of science is to understand and control the environment around us. I'm pretty sure that in the near future, we will see cloning of human beings, whether legal or otherwise

i could see the military wanting clones. Unlimited man power. So what if its wrong so is war.
Need organs clone an organ
No real need for clones though

The whole problem with cloning is that the clone has the same diseases you do. If you have a disease that can be passed to your offspring, it does no good. Other then that, cloning of organs seems like a good idea.

The whole cloning organs is great. No doubt about that. As for cloning humans, I don't see any huge advantages. Military groups would still have to care for and train the clones, and I don't think they would be without rights(meaning that the army wouldn't just be able to take the kids away for being clones and train them from birth simply because they lack 'original DNA').

....Of course, the thought of a 'Les Enfants Terribles' would be pretty cool....
