Clean Web Design

The link below is to a website I made for a friend, its a visually clean layout, with the standard content box and two subcontent/navigation boxes which all change size dynamically (depending on the amount of content) He changed the logo to some godawful teal affair, but hey, its his choice ^_^.

This is my first attempt at web design that was not just a test of different features, and some C&C would be very helpful and appreciated.

Website Link

I kind of like it.
It's definately easy to navigate and read, but still, it's a little too clean.
The background is just plain, perhaps you could add something discrete like, for exemple, fading lines...

Also I'm probably Squall's biggest world fan but seriously, he looks out of place in that navigation window...

edit : Ah, and the banner isn't very easy to read...

Some lines will break up the bland background, and

Ah, and the banner isn't very easy to read...

I mentioned that he replaced my original banner design with his own, graphical nightmare.. co-ordination and design were never his strong points.

The squall image was actually a quick placeholder, he intended on placing different characters from the entire series on each page, I dont know if he followed through with that. Thanks for the crit though, much appreciated :D

I check the source, and it appears to use tablets for layout. Generally, that's not a very good option if you want to be on Google. I suggest CSS and Divs instead.

Me thinks its pretty cool, Maybe a light blue gradient at the top. Nothing drastic but I would be happy with it if it were my website.

Yeah I agree and I think it would be better to link to the style sheet instead of stating it on the source page. Other then that it looks a little too plain to me but still a good first attempt. :D

Simply said, but I pretty much put this together using rudimentary HTML and Dreamweaver, I dont have much knowledge of either of those topics. So at the mo Im searching up everything I can find on CSS and Div tags so I can heed your advice. I might skip some of my classes tomorrow and work on this some more.

so something like

a {
color: whatever;
text-decoration: none;
}

a:hover {
color: whatever;
text-decoration: underline;
}

in the header is... overkill?

To much white I think. It should be enclosed all the way around in my opinion as to provide the browsing user a more 'warmer feeling' if you know what I mean. (No, not the sexual kind either.) It almosts make me feel isolated with that much open space, you know?

Unfortunately, the pc with the original files for this site has died on me. :( So until I can salavge the hardDrive, I cant make any changes. But thanks for all the comments! Your critque is very helpful!
