Christmas - One Week Away!

Christmas

As we all know, the holiday known as "Christmas" is fast approaching. On this day, family members from near and far gather to celebrate this day of giving, eating, and good times spent with loved ones. We begin to see signs that this holiday is approaching months before it happens. People put up their Christmas lights, greeting cards are exchanged, carols are sung, and packages are sent out in anticipation of Christmas day. Then, on the dawn of Christmas day, we awaken. Some, like myself in times past, go down with the family to open presents early, eagerly opening them with a wide-eyed look of both fascination and jubilation on their faces. Others may wait until all the relatives are nearly bursting with delicious Christmas dinner before opening presents. Either way, these are memories that we will cherish for years to come.

So, I ask you, the HBG member:

What are you doing for Christmas? What are you giving/expecting to get?

man this is the first year i can buy my family gifts but i cant spend too much (were broker than SHIT, seriously) so im getting everyone a cheap game and some clothes or what not.

I'm giving my little sister a Laptop for Christmas. And I know how good it is. It is my old laptop, as I recently purchased a new one for myself.

Don't know what else I'm giving/getting this year, though.

We don't really celebrate Christmas. :[

I mean, we eat a dinner and get each other a few presents, but we don't decorate or put up a tree. My mom doesn't want us to, since she's part of a religion that believes Christmas has roots in pagan holidays and shouldn't be celebrated. We don't celebrate birthdays, either. Actually, I don't think we celebrate anything. Jesus wasn't born on December 25th, anyway.

At least you get gifts and spend time with family. That's really all that counts. Forget decorating. Christmas lights are annoying, anyway.

I'm doing two X-mas things this year. Going to a party on either the 24th or the 25th, and going to my mom's on the Sunday after Christmas.

we put up a tree and lights but soph and i aren't really doing anything. i'll probably cook a big meal like i always do. either small gifts or none. thats about it. saving money
it sucks. christmas is my favorite time of year when everything doesn't feel so shitty. but this year, it just doesn't feel like christmas. it's hot as hell out and rainy and humid. can't afford any of the regular decorations or anything, and i'm in an apartment this year so i can't decorate outside. outside soph and some e-friends i don't have ANYONE else to think of for the holidays. so :/

@dadev: that sucks D: are you guys jehovah's witnesses or just really really orthodox?

Some family friends are coming over for dinner. We're probably not putting up the big tree, but we do have a little one that's easier to assemble, and we might put up a couple garlands and shit. As far as stuff goes, I got my mom a body pillow + pillowcase (idk, I never know what to get her, but she expressed interested in that, soooooooo) and asked for D&D books or a couple cheap games. We generally don't buy expensive gifts.

My mom is the only one in my family who regularly goes to the Kingdom Hall and gets involved with the Witnesses. My sister is a little into it, I guess, but me and my dad aren't. I mean, I think it's great my mom's found a religion she really likes and wants to be a part of, but she drags it onto me more than I'd like. I think they're great people, and a lot of people have the wrong idea about the Witnesses. But it's not for me.

I still buy a few presents for my sister and other relatives in the family, but the past few weeks have been crazy for me and I still haven't bought anything. :x

And if we have a green Christmas this year, then there's gonna be trouble... :pissed:

Well as usual my nanan and grandad are coming over and my mams making a big ass dinner...

We've had our tree up since like the 20th November, yeah, pretty early lol, it's a 6ft thing with fake snow and lots of red tinsel and lights, and candy canes and chocolates and bourbels, lol...

I don't really have ANY money (In my bank I have £0.01, which is interest, lol), cause the bastards at the EMA office didnt' pay anyone at college for the last month, so I'm pretty much stuck with nothing...

Although I do know I'm getting some PS3/PSP games for Christmas, since my mam asked which ones I wanted (Getting 3 PS3 games and 5 PSP games), and my nanan is giving me the usual £300, and then there's presents from friends and other relatives.

I'd say my Christmases are generally good and I get quite alot (Since I buy my presents with the money), this year I'm going into town on Boxing day to spend my money I get, lol.

I have never gotten Christmas presents. My Grandma would always bake me special cookies and a glass of milk for Christmas. (bless her heart and R.I.P) Nowadays I don't get a christmas either, but if I could have one reasonable thing, it would be a sponsership. :smile:

Too poor. I never had a dad or a mom, just my Grandma, my great grandma at that, who was on social security, which didn't leave a lot of money for luxury. Plus not a lot of people cared. The crime rate was high, the economy was very low, there wasn't an inch of wall in some places that didn't have spray painted signs all over it. Everything I have right now I earned, no one has ever given me anything. Even though I am proud to say that, I would like that to change one time of year.
