Chevelle's Vena Sera

I'm surprised I'm the only person on this entire forum who's mentioned it even once.... :/
Well, for those of you who do listen to Chevelle, this album is actually quite different from previous installments. First and msot obvious, Joe Loeffler has been replaced by Dean Bernardini on bass, although most of you probably won't hear much of a difference (Pete wrote Joe's bass parts, although I'm not sure if this has changed since Dean joined up. They still sound pretty much the same).

Secondly, this album is much heavier than the others (The lyrics are more mellow as well), and yet slightly more upbeat at the same time. It's really kind of ood at first. Also, on the first track "Antisaint" Pete apparently pays tribute to Maynard (Tool) by sounding eerily just like him. Props to Pete, though, because he does an excellent job with it.

Thirdly, there is quite a bit less screaming on this album with more focus on melodic singing, which is both a good thing and a bad thing. Pete's voice is excellent, but I am also big fan of his screaming, so it's kind of bittersweet.
Some of my current favorites on the album are:

Well Enough Alone- You can just hear it at http://chevelleinc.com/ and see why.

Straight Jacket Fashion- The guitar parts aren't much of a step up from the other albums, as far as technicality goes. However, the vocals have obviously strengthened quite a bit and this track is a perfect example of that. I'll even the give guitar parts props here, since they do an excellent job of building emotion (Especially on the chorus) It's just an excellent track.

Paint the Seconds- Everything in it is just perfect. The vocals are beautiful, the guitar parts and bass are very powerful, the drums aren't something outstanding (As rarely are drum parts ever, unless you're listening to Rush or something), but they definitely get the job done. The transitions are odd, yet oddly satisfying for some reason. And here's a surprise: there's a guitar solo at the end! Of course, it's not Zakk Wylde or anything, but it fits with the band's style great. This one's actually my second favorite on the album.

I Get It- My all-time favorite Chevelle song. Period. The bass is rockin' at the beginning and the chorus was stuck in my mind for a few hours until I realized I was singing it to myself constantly. Then I went and listened to the actual thing. :) I can't really explain why, but this one is just awesome.

So, as you can probably tell, I love this album. I urge anyone who likes Chevelle even just a little bit to check it out. It sounds really odd at first, but you'll learn to love it sooner or later.
