as you are allready aware Ultima, i would just like to say to the .org community that i will be taking over this project.

- To the .Org community.
if there are any features you would like to see in this, please post some ideas, and i will try to implment them into the project, as soon as i have made some decent progress, i will post the newer version into a new thread, and updates will be in there. untill then i will be using this thread for the time being.

Ok, this is still a beta, version 0.1b, so if you find any bugs please PM me, or post them here.

This has a full Export system working (Hopefully no errors)

Tell me what you think about it, and if you have any good features in mind that can be added please let me know :thumb:

Just so you will know, LegacyX, I have downloaded it and will be testing it. I'll post any errors or buggy behavior that I get.

Thanks for working on this!

Ok thanks MayorAnime, i thought that this was a good project to work on, so i took over the project, if you have any Features you think i should include, please let me know.

-To All C++ Programmers, and Spriters-

if you would like to work on this with me please PM me.

Okay, after about an hour of exploring it, I've come up with some peripheral things to report. Now, I'm not going to label all of this as bugs, as this is obviously a beta version.

Obvious Bugs:

1. When you have one type of Body (such as Adult Female - Pale) selected, and choose a different type of Body (such as Teen Female - Pale), nothing happens. You have to clear the body you are working on to do anything.

2. The Layers don't seem to do anything. I added an Upper Armor to a character on layer 5 (Front, Back, etc) and then added an Upper Dress to the same layer. The Dress did not replace the armor, but pasted underneath the armor.

3. Hue and Saturation sliders do absolutely nothing. They do not change either the Hue or the Saturation of either the image as a whole or the layer selected.

Possible Bugs: (You may already be planning to implement this, so I apologize in advance if this seems presumptuous)

1. There is no way to clear a layer other than to select an empty cell for that particular 'Part'. For example, if you have selected an 'Adult Female - Pale' and want to clear it, you have to select the empty cell to the left of the Pale bodies. This is counter-intuitive, in my opinion, and either there should be a 'Clear Layer' button, or that cleared cell to the left, should have the words 'Clear Layer' on it.

2. There is no way to clear everything and start over with another character short of selecting another mode.

3. The Hue and Saturation Sliders don't allow for grabbing and sliding. You have to click where you want the slider to go on the bar.

Suggestions: (Again, you may already be planning these, as this program is just version 0.1)

1. An import feature for materials may be nice. Of course, dragging and dropping into the folders may work?

2. A way to assign the transparent color for the character?

3. Along with the Hue and Saturation sliders, a Lightness slider?

That's all I have for right this moment, but this is only with an hour of looking at it. Again, this is a bang-up tool and I hope development on it continues. I especially like how it offers several choices of character types!

Good work!

While I'm not an expert Spriter, I can offer to help rip resources for use, if that would help. Either way, I am more than happy to bug test this bad boy! ;)

Ok thanks, i have allready planed on adding these features, as most are allready in development. If you come up with anyother ideas, feel free to post them here.

Also if anyone would like to talk to me more abut this on MSN, feel free to add me Rickster090@hotmail.co.uk

-Features adding-

At the momment changing the interface, to allow it to be more user freindly, using combo boxes for the resource selection, instead of the menus.

If you want to know more about this, then please ask here.

~Happy coding

Just a couple of thoughts, don't know if you already have them in mind:

1. Scalable characters - make options for different size sprites, like 32x32, 64x64, 80x60, etc.

2. is there an 8-way option? I'm at work and can't download the .exe file but I was wondering ;)

3. will there be a way to import my own char template to use with the editor? Like when I do my 3D models, can I import rendered .PNGs of the 3D char, clothes, weapons, armor, etc? I want to do a Twinsen's Odyssey type game, but I'm making my own 3D characters and all. It would be awesome to be able to use your Character Studio as a template for my rendered sprites...

4. this one is quite a stretch, i don't even know if it's possible, but I was wondering if you could make provisions for animated character previews for when you are working on a character sprite. Like, have it in a continuous walking mode but spinning so that you see all 8 directions while you are adding/changing clothes, weapons, armor etc?

thanks a ton for your work on this, it's an awesome venture!

@Ricoman

These are some very good ideas. As you have them numbered, i will try and add these functions to the Program, in the order they are numbered.

Thank you for giving me some nice ideas :thumb:

-Edit-

One thing, if anyone knows where i can find a VX characterset template, can you please post it here, or PM me a Link, thanks

LegacyX: great work...
"Custom modes" would be awesome...
For example i'd like a mode that uses ragnarok online charsheets, or a mode that use custom made sprites, or simply a mode for custom scripted movements that uses for example more frames and/or more directions.

It could be something like this:
Modes -> Create new mode -> pop up window
All the options needed for the mode ( sprite dimensions, number of frames, number of directions, and so on.. )

yeah, I would really like the adjustable number of frames. With the 3d models I make, I can change my animations to any number of frames very easily. I like the very fluid animations much morre than the jerky and blocky 4 frame animations of XP.
Also, will it support native transparency settings? Like if I render out a .png from Maya, will it keep the variable transparency levels or will it be like a normal XP template that only has 100% transparency or none? This is very important for anti-aliasing in rendered sprites... :shades:

hmm 3d models.. hmm im not sure about that.

but transparency. that will defenitly be supported, but the 3d model idea would be the last thing ill be doing, but ill add that to my list of to-do things :D

oh no, sorry I don't mean to make 3d models available to use in the template.

Let me explain. I build my 3d models in Maya. I render out pictures in .png form from the posed models to make my 2D sprites. The 3D model never leaves Maya, and it never gets to the template itself. Only the rendered images are used in the template.

Sorry, I guess that was kind of confusing ;)

Oh, ok i get it. Yeah it was kinda confusing at first.

I suppose ill add that to the custom modes when i get that done.

Ill be releasing what i've done so far in a few days.

Hi uhh sorry to say this ut I downloaded it and well there are no sprites. nothing. nada so perhaps next time you could add some sprites. Thanks.
