Character skills help

Hello, just having a little bit of a problem with my game. I have been making it for over a year and this problem hit me.

I am making a chrono trigger sequel. Yes i know alot of people seem to have problems with making sequels to games like that, but its my project and its what i wanna do so just bare with me.

I am using some of the characters from the first game, but i dont know what to do about their stats/skills.

By the end of the first game all your characters are leveled up completely.

Which would mean in my sequel they have to be completely leveled unless they somehow lost their powers.

Does anyone have any ideas at all as to how i should go about fixing this.

Thanks alot
Joe

It's a game about time travel. The timeline was somehow altered and, while they retain their memories due to a time paradox, all they skills and powers have been lost.

That was pretty obvious.

Yes well its not like i havnt thought of those, i just didnt know if they would seem kinda stupid. But if you agree that it works than ill take your word for it. Thanks alot for the advice.
And as for king of pancakes, i wasnt asking how i was asking what the explanation would be of why they would all be level 1 again.

P.s. Why does everyone have to be sarcastic on this website???

Joe: No concept or idea in itself is inherently stupid, it's ALWAYS in how it is handled that makes it amazing or stupid. With proper handling, a story about a princess being kidnapped by a giant Pizza which is set on making Italy into a flying space station to conquer the planet Jupiter could be better than a deep, complex theological story about Gods and Giant Mechs and Lesbian Robots...

Ok, well, nothing beats lesbian robots... but you understand my point. Do it right and no idea is ever stupid.

Why not make the original crew of CT as non-players-characters? So you won't need status for them, and you can open space for your own characters to develop. Think Chrono Cross, where you don't control any famous one, but they still influences on the story.

Well, there is another solution.  A save file saves numbers - the map ID, the character IDs, the status values, etc.  If you copy the database over from the first game into the second and copy the last map of the first game into the second game under the same map ID, it will essentially allow you to continue by moving the save file from the first to the second.  I'm sorry if that's confusing.  Let me know if you need a better explanation.
