Character portraits, need some opinions

Howdy, got a few portraits done up, and need an opinion or three. I havn't done pixel art in ages, last time was for Doom 2... Anywho, these were my first 3 attempts. Suede, Dirge, and Vesper.

Here's where I need opinions, when I did Vespers I tried something new for the face, and like it. I still like the other two as well, but the styles don't match up very well. All 3 need some work in spots anyhow, so do I go with the newer style of Vesper, or stick with the other two?

Heck, if ya think they suck and have some criticism, I'll take that too! Thanks for looking!

Edit: AHAH! Would help if I linked em right...

Yeah, the first thing that struck me was that all three looked rather inconsistent with each other.

And if you're trying to choose a style, I too would side with Vesper. He looks very smoothed out, almost as if it wasn't pixel art, whereas I'm just not a big fan of the textures of the other two.

Nice work, definitely.

You saved as a .jpg. Not good dude, that ruins the quality of the pixelart, making everything a blurry mess. If you tried to give those images transparency now, you'd notice that there would be a whole load of stray white pixels. Make a habit of saving as a .png; which will keep the filesize down, without losing any colour quality (as long as the number of colours used is below 255, but if you made a sprite with mor than 255 colours, somethimg must be wrong with you.)

Aside from that, the sprites don't look so bad, although the hair shading is a little off in places (Dirge most notably), I have a feeling you're using default MS pait colours (not good either. Double click on a palette colour to select your own custom shade. Or, take colours from spritework that you like the scheme of), and for ease of incorporation into your game, it would be better if they all looked in the same direction.

Thank for the replies so far!

Grooveman - Using Mediafire to host the pictures, and they seem to have a problem with .png files showing up. So I'm using .jpg just to upload to them. Looks like they're having problems in general at the moment, heheh. Otherwise, I'm using PSP, and was using a picture as a color base. But yeah, need a bit more variety. And yep, 256 color.

Missingno - Yeah, they should actually. The face portions anyway. I'm using poser to get the shape and shading for them. Don't have any goodies to slap on them however, so anything that's not skin is freehand drawn.

Meian - Thank ya, that's what I was thinking too. Will have to go back and redo the other two. Go progress!

Domonic- Thanks!

I love the first one - middle one doesn't do anything for me though, makes me think of Power Rangers. :/  Last one's pretty cool - evil character?

i like the first two
and to go along with what meian said they don't have the same style the first two look closer but the way the shadow are done in the last one look funny, try adding some shadow to the last ones hood, that might help a bit

the last one reminds me of something that could have been made for Diablo I
