Change choice name

I want to have a cell phone item in my game similar to the codec in MG. This is how it is suppoused to work.
-When you get the cellphone, it has no numbers recorded on it, so all choices should say "empty" on them
-When you record a number, the "empty" string should change to the persons name.
So what I'm asking for is some kind of script that allows me to change the choice's name depending on a switch (or anthing, really...).
 
I can think of two ways you would want to do this:
1. Use events, call a common event whenever they use the cell phone item/press the button you want.  Then, depending on which switches are set, display the appropriate choice boxes.  This would take a ton of conditional blocks.

2. Make your own window with a script and add an option for each switch that is on.  I haven't yet messed around with windows/menus in RGSS much, so I can't help you here.  Maybe somebody else can give advice.
