Buying a new cell phone

Guys I need your help! I don't know how much you guys know about cell phones, but maybe some of you do.
I want to buy a new phone but there are so many choices... What phones do you guys use and are they any good? Also (to you other canadians) should I go with Rogers or Bell?

IMO buy a cheap phone but by a big name (like a Motorolla or something) and then spend the rest on something way more meaningful. :)

I have a Motorolla, can't remember the model, but it was £29.99 ($60) and had a basic cam, FM radio, MP3 player, phone :), and some other shit that I'll never use.

Or, you know, you could just get a blackberry. :)

Don't get an iPhone though they're shit (from experience).

lol,

Does not matter what mobile you get, as long as it can call and text what else do you need?

My phone is a LG it dosnt have MP3, Camera, Customizable ring tones, or a decent wallpaper.
But it gets the job done.

But, if you do get a cheap phone, make sure it's still by a big name, as I've had so many shitty phones by unknown companies like Trium... *shudders*

It also depends what you're doing in terms of a plan.
Most plans are designed to screw you over in the long term. Let's face it, the Canadian system is fairly shitty compared to others around the world.
Anyways, back to the phones.

You likely want something cheap - I have a Nokia 3230 that's pretty good, all things considered. Since it's an older model, it's fairly cheap, too.
But generally, if you're looking for cheap and are getting a pay as you go plan/ already have a plan, I'd either go secondhand but still good quality or something simple and affordable, like an LG or a Nokia.
But you DO need to give us some more information - do you want something you can just keep in your pocket for a while without having to take out and recharge? Something sturdy? Lightweight? Otherwise I can just give you some very generic tips, but they're not as optimal as they could be.
Hope this helps.

i dont care for cell phones. I just get the cheapest flipfone i can find (because i hate non-flip phones, shit gets stuck in the buttons and you have to keypad lock which is gay)

shadow: I'm with Telus, and despite there annoying "lol we made you wait 4weeks just to tell you your credit wasn't approved!"-ness, I am enjoying the plan. I pay just about $60 a month for unlimited evenings, some daytime minutes, and unlimited between myself and 5 other phone numbers. Which is plenty for me. Infact, I ended up putting my work number as the 5th just in case.

The phone itself is an LG Venus, exclusive to Telus. I can tell why. It really, really sucks. It's a slide-phone, so although its like a simple phone (nonflip) it doesn't get any of the negatives of being a simple phone. It also has a touchscreen, which albeit neat, is somewhat useless. The phone itself works weird, it doesn't let you use MP3 ringtones (but plays mp3s?) and has an interesting bug/feature when having a conversation.

If you are talking, or making any sort of noise thruogh the receiver, the speaker cuts off. So if I am talking, I can't hear you talk. Which is neat, because I ragingly hate when people talk over me in person (and ESPECIALLY on the phone) but at the sametime, sometimes I breathe heavily into the phone and need the ask the person to repeat themselves, or I say Hi, and they say Hi back before the speaker works again, so I say Hi again, and they do it again... It's like when you are trying to unlock the passenger side door of a car while they keep pulling the handle.

I use a Blackberry Curve as a radio in my work truck and those things I love to death. The full keyboard, the conversation, everything works flawlessly. I would honestly suggest one of those with one of the cheaper Data plans with Telus or Rogers. Although Rogers tends to GOUGE you on Data plans.

If you are in canada, go with virgin mobile. They have great plans whether you get prepaid or a contract.
There's $7 a month unlimited internet plans. And that's prepaid.

Yeah, Bell is horrible. I have a Rogers plan that works out well enough, since I don't really use my phone a whole lot.
If you use yours frequently, I might take a quick look at Koodo. Apparently service could be an issue, though.

I have an mp3 phone from Rogers and one of its features is supposed to be mp3 ringtones, but Rogers deactivated it so you have to pay extra to get it unlocked or something. I personally hate the company, they send me texts all the time about there new offers.

Bell is shit too though.

The phone itself is a Sony Ericsson flip phone, and it's awesome. It's pretty thick compared to a lot of the newer phones now, but I've whipped that thing across the room on more then one occasion and it has nothing more then a few scratches. It's also way more comfortable to hold in your hand then say a Motorola razor, it's really light too.

Also, Motorola is shit.

I'd go with a Nokia, or a Sony Ericsson.

Wouldnt Telstra Pre-Paid Plus be the best because 1 cent text, Free calls to 5 ppl.
But also Vigin is good for a $15 recharge u can have free text Virgin to Virgin

its ur choice.
