Brawl Tournament

Let's kick it.
It's time to really kick things off, and what better way than with a Super Smash Bros Brawl Tournament?. On the night of the tournament, it will most likely be conducted primarily in irc, in the #hive irc channel. I'd love to have a tournament within a few days of the game's release, as an introduction to what the Hive Smash Bros League is all about. I know a lot of members here are excited about the game and are ready to jump into playing wifi. What better way to do this than with a tournament where we can all start playing with each other?

The tournament is currently scheduled to be held on Saturday, March 29 at 8PM (that's tonight!). It will be hosted in #hive.

Rules:
  • 1v1, 4-stock, no time limit.
  • All stages, random selection.
  • All items on, low.
  • One fight per match (ie. best 1 of 1).
  • Characters aren't fixed (meaning you can use different characters between matches).
  • If there's a disconnect, two more tries. After three disconnects, the match is a loss for the person who is DCing.

Prizes and points (for members of the Hive League):
  • Tournament Winner will receive 100 points.
  • Tournament Winner will get a "champion badge".
  • Runner-up will receive 50 points.
  • If you win any matches, you are guaranteed at least 10 points.
  • Just for participating, you will receive at least 5 points.

This tournament is going to be combined with the Hive Brawl Tournament, which I'm organizing and hosting as well. RMXP.org members who wish to receive league points for this tournament should register at Hive.

Sign-ups (including people confirmed from Hive:
  • (0173-0993-0846)    Despain
  • (1032-0926-9049)    Dissonance
  • (5241-1574-0422)    Dopples
  •                               Astromech
  •                               Yggdrasil/ArchAngel
  •                               Rare

If you're going to be in the tournament, and are not on the list, post here and let me know.
Also, if you are on the list and your friend code is not there, let me know.

  • Obviously, the big one: good idea? If you want to sign up, just say so.
Yes, it's a good idea, and I'm signing up
  • When would be good for this? Since the idea is that it's the big first tournament, within the first week would be cool.
I'd say do it on the saturday after the game's been released.
  • Not everyone might have all the characters unlocked. Is this a "too bad for you", or are we going to limit the characters?
I'd say that this would be a "Too bad for you" thing, since nearly everyone here knows the full roster.
  • Items? Which ones, what frequency, etc.
Keep everything at High frequency, with everything on.
  • Stock would probably be the best way to go. How many?
Three stock is fine, though, if there's gonna be a freeforall, I'd say five.
  • Time limit? Yes, no, and how long?
No time limit
  • Structure of the tournament. Number of fights per match, etc.
Just one fight if it's freeforall. Two if it's 1 vs. 1

    * Obviously, the big one: good idea? If you want to sign up, just say so.
I would be interested!
    * When would be good for this? Since the idea is that it's the big first tournament, within the first week would be cool.
Sometime during the first week. I may not have access to a Wii for quite a while afterwards, and I want to join in.
    * Not everyone might have all the characters unlocked. Is this a "too bad for you", or are we going to limit the characters?
I'm assuming people can play against characters they haven't unlocked, so I don't see a reason for a limit.
    * Items? Which ones, what frequency, etc.
I prefer all items, but smash ball at the very least. Normal frequency is fine.
    * Stock would probably be the best way to go. How many?
5 is fine.
    * Time limit? Yes, no, and how long?
I don't see a reason.
    * Structure of the tournament. Number of fights per match, etc.
I like free-for-all, but I guess it depends on how many people we have.

*Obviously, the big one: good idea? If you want to sign up, just say so.
I'll sign up for sure.
*When would be good for this? Since the idea is that it's the big first tournament, within the first week would be cool.
The weekend after the release?
*Not everyone might have all the characters unlocked. Is this a "too bad for you", or are we going to limit the characters?
Too bad for you.
*Items? Which ones, what frequency, etc.
Either all items, regular frequency, or no items.
*Stock would probably be the best way to go. How many?
3-5
*Time limit? Yes, no, and how long?
No time limit.
Structure of the tournament. Number of fights per match, etc.
1v1 tournament, with final four having a free for all?

- It's a great idea. Would love to sign up, but unfortunately I'm in Europe. =\

When would be good for this? Since the idea is that it's the big first tournament, within the first week would be cool.
- Doesn't really matter to me. A weekend would probably be best though.

Not everyone might have all the characters unlocked. Is this a "too bad for you", or are we going to limit the characters?
- Too bad.

Items? Which ones, what frequency, etc.
- All or just smash ball. Normal frequency.

Stock would probably be the best way to go. How many?
- 5

Time limit? Yes, no, and how long?
- No

Structure of the tournament. Number of fights per match, etc.
- 1v1 5-stock sounds good, Free-for-all if you get a lot of sign-ups.

(curse you Europe :pissed:)

- Yes.

- A weekend.

- Too bad for them.

Items? Which ones, what frequency, etc.
- All items, including the smash ball.  Medium Freq.

Stock would probably be the best way to go. How many?
- 6

Time limit? Yes, no, and how long?
- No.

- MIDNIGHT! Release night!

- Sucks to be you.

Items? Which ones, what frequency, etc.
- No items.

Stock would probably be the best way to go. How many?
- 3

Time limit? Yes, no, and how long?
- No.

Structure of the tournament. Number of fights per match, etc.
- 3 fight per match?

Definitely not. Those of us who are getting the game on release night are likely going to be playing it with irls, and there also would be like nothing unlocked.

Right now I'm thinking the weekend after it's released (14th or 15th), since people would have had a week to play and unlock things. Although that does sort of eliminate any of the hilarious "holy shit I just got this that was new to me", it might work better for most people. Thoughts?

All characters and stages allowed. Random stage election.

4-stock, 1v1, no time limit (unless there are a lot of people that sign up). One fight per round.

All items, medium frequency.

Single elimination or double-elimination?

I say double elimination.

Despain, I thought you shared your Wii with a roommate?  I hope you'll be able to play...I wanna kick your ass.  =D

(I'm going to lose) :[

EDIT:  Despain, did you do that pixel art at the top of the page?  I'm in love with it.

@Any Moderator Here: I've been permabanned from the IRC... X.X
So I'm gonna have to finsd a way to contact peoples other than that. Any ideas?
@Yggdrassil: Link owns Sonic's ass.

I'll kill you all with Sonic. As soon as I get this game I'm unlocking him.

And double elimination ftw.

Sonic isn't as good as people seem to think he is. Sure, he has speed, but his power is so bad that he doesn't have many killing moves at all. The ironic part is that Snake is more useful =x

It's my Wii, it's their TV. I hope to be getting my own TV sometime this week.

We definitely won't be holding it in the main #rmxp channel. Most likely in #hive, since it's a brawl channel anyway. If anyone really has any complaints about that, we can make #brawl or something like that.

It seems like everybody likes double elimination. Also, no fixed characters? We can use different characters in each fight.

No no fixed characters rule. It'll piss a lot of people off that they can't pwn face with their favorite character (Me included).

First of all, I don't know if you've got a date yet for this, but I'll voice my opinion on this either way. No way I'd miss this and I haven't played it yet as I'm waiting for the US version to come out. (that way its not super cheap when I play against anyone in the US having already played it for awhile.)

-When would be good for this? Fifth day after it is released? Gives people enough time to buy it?

- Not everyone might have all the characters unlocked, but so what? If you have the character, use them.

- Items? I'd go with the full frequency, all items. Its better than the "standard" rules tournaments use.

- Rules? 5 stock rule, 3 rounds (2 wins), 10 min time limit?

Hey, guys: let me run this by you. I figured I'd ask rather than just do it since that would be sort of hijacking this (even though I'm organizing it).

I'm starting up a site for an online Brawl League, that will have points, rankings, etc. I'm not saying that members here have to sign up at all on this site, but since it's just starting out (and really doesn't have any members), it might be cool to host this in #hive. And if the winner of the tournament is a member of the Hive League, he/she will get 100 Brawl League points.

TREG and other administrators have said no to an official WiFi subforum here, so we might be able to make my league site into the RMXP league, of sorts. Let me know what you guys think.
