Big Door [WIP]

You shouldn't have the steps on the width changes exactly line up, it makes the "jaggy" edges more visible. Try making them off by at least one pixel, maybe two. Something like this:

You can also try varying the outline color to reduce the appearance of the jaggy edges. Darker colors kinda feel like they're farther inwards than lighter colors even when on the same line, at least, that's my experience.

Also, I honestly didn't see the shading on the lower outer frame until I enlarged it, I think you need a little more contrast.

And that's about it from this amature. Hope it helps. Good start.

That makes sense, especially the outlining part. Thanks.

The shading has been frustrating because I was trying to keep with the RTP palette of Door4, so the contrast is an issue. I may have to branch out to a better palette.

Thanks Prexus. Those will help if I finish the other door. This one I decided to just make as a pocket door rather than a hinged.

thats a slick move incorporating the RTP into the design. I think the shading style works for RTP. but I admit I'm having trouble making out what the design is. Perhaps a bit more detail?

Well, I left the design of the markings somewhat ambiguous so that other people could incorporate in their games without having to edit it or have it not fit well. Since I'm using VEX with RTP tilesets, I had to make sure it matched up without looking too sick.

The main part of the design is for a wing. I'm using it in my game for the castle door of a city that worships a bird.

I like the door ;)
Now that you have the basic done, maybe yo can experiment making a few variations of it? Maybe some gold or silver inlays into the design? That would definitely give it a religious connotation. We want the gods to now they are worth more than carved stone, right?

-edit-
just noticed this was a post from Septembers back-up, well, regardless, my opinion still stands
:P
