Best Moments in a Video Game

What was one of your best moments in a video game.

For me, it was in FF6. I was fighting those crane things (forget what they're called) right after you flee from Vector. The first time I used Setzer's Slot ability, I got the 7 Flush, which instantly wipes out the entire enemy party. Though I found out later through my second play through that that boss wasn't that hard, it was still pretty freakin' cool that I got that on my first try (never got it again, though).

So, what about you guys? Any favorite video game moments?

I have a few that I can't remember, one of my favorites though is seeing Ganon for the first time in Ocarina. It just puts chills down your spine, lol.

I have two that really stand out:

In Illusion of Gaia (which is full of win, btw) when you slowly lose most of your characters and then reach the Tower of Babel and meet the dead spirits of all who passed away that were close to Will. I dunno, it kinda made me feel all sad cause the game had a sense of realism in it that recent games lack.

The second one being in Grandia, just turning on the game and staring at the title listening to the theme. It's so breath-taking that it makes you WANT to play the game, but at the same time makes you not want to click the start button.

Final Fantasy II, IV for you continuity purists out there. It was the first game I ever played, and it's brimming with good nostalgia. My fondest memories include the Underworld, Lugae in the Tower of Bab-Il, the entire Tower of Zot, and most of my time spent on the moon and Earth whizzing around on an airship or the Whale.

Also the last boss. :>

What about Cecil becoming a paladin?

(First RPG for me as well!)

The Masked Magician's unmasking in Suikoden 3. Also his POV that you unlock at the end of the game.

Being a total Suikoslut, I followed the story from the first to the end. Finding out who the villain was and finding out what drove him to do such a thing was just so very moving. I want to blow up the world too.

The Roxas x Sora showdown and final battle against Xemnas in KH2 were made of win as well.

Gods, you're right! :0

Now that you've mentioned Masked Men, sabao, I gotta mention Mother 3 and Earthbound. Wait... No Mother 3. I might've spoiled the plot for myself, but I don't have the full experience until it's in Miek-glish.

Earthbound, though, man. The very beginning, right after you've named your dog your liege and maintained that your favourite food is a fried or roast cattle flank (and named some people you haven't even met yet,) a block of solid atmosphere comes and hits you in the face. Turns out that screen tint and an ambient sound track are all it takes. That's what got me hooked on Earthbound initially -- I saw my friend play through the "prologue" up until the Jr. Starman battle, and after I'd gotten past the hilarious outrage of him naming one of his characters "Poo" I was hooked.

When  first beated strife in soul caliber 3 ..
MAn i was an amateur back then (now i get perfect on him)

But if you are an amateur prepare to die over and over (and doing the lvl over and over again) ..
for about .. 10 FREAKING TIMES !

10 freaking times he owned my 6 headed party ...

1- UFO: Enemy Unknown. My favourite game ever, of course. Also known as XCOM: UFO defence, to you americans. A 1992 classic that included dynamic lighting, destructable terrain, shedloads of atmosphere, and a disturbingly high difficulty. Several moments are great, but the highlights would be:
- Seeing Ethereals for the first time infiltrating your base, going 'oh sh**!' as your entire squad are all mind raped and turn on one another.
- Arming a Human constructed UFO (Firestorm) with Plasma cannon and watching it blow the crap out of a vicious alien battlecruiser. Terribly liberating after months of you being shot down by technologically superior forces.
- Your first ever Night Operation in a Terror site. Damn scary! Don't turn the lights off!

2- Elder Scrolls: Oblivion A cliched choice, perhaps, but I'm a massive fan of Oblivion.
-Standing on top of a big hill and looking over the imperial city. Still awesomely awe inspiring.
-Randomly riding your horse around. Fun!
-That announcer in the Arena. He's awesome. (I based T.E.W.'s announcer on him)

3- System Shock 2 Another masterpiece from the past.
-The first time you hear The Many speak to you through Xerxes. It scared the crap out of me.
-Fighting a Rumbler with a Laser Rapier. And winning. Very difficult, but rewarding.
-The ending cutscene. One of those few times I've been happy with a games ending. And your characters only spoken line in the game: 'Nah...' ROFL

In Earthbound, when the Onett music first plays - the way it just sorta explodes in. I frikkin love that game.

Every second of the original Harvest Moon

In Wild ARMs, when you learn the truth about Rudy. I was like 0_o

Every second of Alundra

In Xenogears, when you find out about how Kadamony works. (Basically, one of the biggest plots twists in the game)

... I need to study some more - I'll think of more later.

Yeah, I agree. This was a great but sad moment when Rudy's truth came out, it kind of upset me alot, and his sad-ass theme music (which I love, btw) didnt help at all. Great, great game.

The first Wild Arms is the only amazing one (2 was pretty damn good, too).

You and me both. I always loved trying to get to the top of the mountains far to the north, but the game stops you at a certain point. Unfortunately I don't have an Xbox anymore. It sucks!

I love sequence breaking in Super Metroid, or perhaps any Metroid game (except Fusion), because it's always so satisfying getting something before you're supposed to.

Then there's the scenery of Final Fantasy IX. There's not a place in the game that I don't like. The whole game is such a feast for the eyes.

Tons of others, can't think of 'em off the top of my head though.

The end of the Soul Reaver/Legacy of Kain sagas (Legacy of Kain: Defiance). Those games had the most chillingly brilliant story I've ever seen in a videogame--one of the best played plots in any medium I've seen, overall. And the end--it was a cliffhanger while being satisfying all at the same time. The ends of every predecessor were horrible, eye-gouging cliffhangers, but Defiance ended so well I wouldn't mind if they never made another, and no game has ever been able to make me feel that way again.

Also, in Shadow of the Colossus ... When you look up at the first Colossus and say to yourself, "I'm just a 5-foot-nothing kid against a 3 story giant ... o_o.".

I'll always remember that :D

Oh, and that point in Ecco the Dolphin, where you're all happy and diving around, then you jump too high and then BAM!! WWWHOOOOOOSSSSHHHHHH! Everyone is sucked into a vortex, and then you're all alone, and eerie music has set in, and you're just floating there, going "D:".

Awesome :thumb:

Do you mean inb4sephirothkillsgirl? Becuase that's how it has to be said.Proper grammer ruins it.

I have to say one of my favorite video game moments was beating the Water Temple from Ocarina. It was so satisfying!

Ooh, I just thought of another one -

Magus' castle in Chrono Trigger. Just, the way that the music of the castle segues into the boss theme (which kicks ass) makes it seem like such a together, cohesive sequence. It's like, every sound leading up the battle with Magus is part of the theme, then the music swells and it's like DUUUUUH DUUH DUH DUUUUH DUH DUH DUH DUH DUUUUH DUUUUUUUH DUUUUUUH DUUUUH and I'm like THIS GAME ROCKS

Also, in Final Fantasy VIII - Quistis with the minigun.

Bioshock, this is a spoiler, so those of you who haven't played the game, don't read,

When you're talking to Andrew Ryan, and you find out that Atlas, who you thought to be your friend the entire time, has been controlling you the entire game with the phrase "Would you kindly"

Also, Resident Evil 3, blasting Nemisis with a freaking Laser Cannon! Yeah, if that doesn't make you feel good about yourself, I don't know what does.
