Battlefield Heroes is a free 3rd-person shooter developed by EA/DICE (same dudes that worked on mirrors edge, i guess?) for the PC. it's nothing like the other battlefield games in that (A) it's 3rd person, and (B) it features stylized (kinda stylized, anyway) 'cartoon' graphics. it's totally free, except for (theres always an exception) if you want to buy special clothes/items for your character/s to wear. none of the guns or abilities can be bought tho (they're purchased with in-game points earned from playing), so it doesn't imbalance the game at all. it's got big maps, and vehicles, and whatnot like most battlefield games, but less SERIOUS BIDNESS. also it's being made to run on old decrepit PCs, so pretty much anybody can run it.

there are two teams to pick from, and three classes. the teams are the royals, and the nationals. they pretty much look like normal army guys (royals) and nazis (nationals). classes are soldier, gunner, and commando. soldier gets SMG and pistols, gunner gets BFG machine guns (which aren't even all that good tbh), and the commando can snipe. and stab people. AND TURN INVISIBLE. and everybody uses him and its ANNOYING at times. >:[

anywho, if you read my info, and still dont quite get it, you can check http://www.battlefield-heroes.com and see how awesome this game is. right now it's in closed beta, so you have to sign up for a beta key to play it... but it's set to be changed to open beta in about a month anyway, so if you don't get a key by then, you'll be good anyway!

so is anyone else playing this game? i'm having quite a bit of fun with it. :}

My friend and I got our closed beta codes, and I didn't really like it. The soldier can AoE heal.. and that is complete bullshit. I only played it for a few hours, so maybe they changed it or something, but during my play around, everyone was a soldier and doing nothing but healing. Nobody died. Dumbest shit ever.

I've been casually giving this a shot over the passed 2 days actually. It isn't half bad!

Not something I would play seriously, but it's pretty nifty.

I am Cryaotic, the annoying sniper in the trees. Oh! I'm also a nazi!

everybody takes the nazis. i mean nationals.
all four of my characters are royals... and i lose a lot - no matter how well i do. i actually went 33-10 in a game once and my team still lost. :l

its fun.. it won't replace TF2 as my go-to game, but it's one of the coolest play-for-free shooters i've played so far.



and psi, all the classes can heal.. if you dont mind wasting your VP on temporary band-aid widgets.

I have a Royal named Cryaon, though he is only level 2.

I could play around on him if you want to do a few rounds. :shades:

My main fellow is level 10 at the moment, and as form TF2 steam recently had a weekend sale on The Orange Box and it was going for 10 bucks. Sadly I let it slip by so since then I've been wanting a go at TF2, and this just so happens to be the closest I've gotten to it.

it's gonna be hell week when the sniper update is released tho.



this game needs a friend list or something to make playing with others a bit easier.
i've a soldier at lv 6, a commando at 7 or so, and a gunner at 9. and another commando at 1. dont know why i made 2 commandos. @_@
at first i thought the gunner was kinda lame.. but after way too many horrible experiences in close combat with the commando, I appreciate his abilities much more <3

Now that it's actually released, i'm wondering if anyone on this forum plays it? and what do you think about it? I've been playing it for a couple of hours now and I'm enjoying the shit out of it. I especially like the fact that you can assign missions to yourself, and execute them while leveling and shooting.. It's a combination of various good game elements, mixed in a brilliant way.

Couple of downpoints are that you can not choose your own server to play in (or maybe there is a way, and I'm just stupid) except with a weird bookmarking system. Also, you can not see another person's rank, so he might be lvl 1000 and you're just a newbie. And there are too few upgrades/items to pick from when you don't want to spend money on it. (though I'm only level 6, maybe you can unlock them when your level gets higher...?

by the way, my account is 'B.ier' if anyone wants to shoot with me. I don't know how they've put up the servers so people halfway across the world (ie. Canada, US) might not be able to 'see' me. But you could always give it a try

I don't play it anymore. It was fun for a few weeks, but it got old pretty quickly. I was the British, but I'm pretty sure that the Nazis were overpowered. Like I said though, I haven't played it in a while, so they could've nerfed some things.

When I played, Nationals kept wooping Royals ass.
Now, its the other way around! =D

Lol every game I join, the Nationals pwn us, it's so unfair lol, all they do is SNIPE SNIPE SNIPE, fuck sniping, it's for pussy cowards... That's why I always drive an aeroplane into the lighthouse in an attempt to kill them, lol... ofcourse I jump out before, or sit on the wing and shoot 'em, THEN jump, lol.

It is a pretty fun game, but the maps sort of suck, the classes are VERY unbalanced, the snipers are fucking invincible, and going invisible... WTF.
