Autumn (Fall) Photography

$t3v0

Awesome Bro

Hey guys,

I don't know about you, But Autumn is by FAR my favourite season overall. With the right amount of cold and the golden gleam of leaves everywhere, Every corner holds a beautiful sight, Especially to a photographer.

Photography is merely a hobby to me. At no point do I intend to take it on as a career, But why not make a little bit of money on the side with it, Huh? I sell images to papers all over my district and I've recently began trying my luck on istockphoto.

Photography is not only a hobby, But it's my daily exercise. I hate to just go out and walk with nothing in my hands but thin air. So usually My camera is around my neck and I'm stopping every 15 seconds to snap up a photo. I love it!

Anyway, Down to business ...

I've been out the past two days in the lovely scenery of an English Autumn, But I'd like to see some photos of an international Autumn, too! I doubt things will be significantly different, But it would be nice to see :)

Here are some examples of the past 2 days work ...

I'm really liking a chunk of these. Does it really rain that much in England? I can't stand clear skies, I'm a bit weird like that. I should move to London one day, hm.

Heh, No. But it is really bad. We're such a small island, We get all the downpour EVERYWHERE. I kind of like it, though. It gives our country character and a reason to go abroad :p

No ... You don't come to England to go to London :| Jeez ... Do something original and see the REAL England.

Wow, impressive!

Autumn is one of my favorite seasons too, though it looks quite bit different in your photos from England. I grew up with red and gold leaves of poplar, maple, birch and oak. It was mostly red maple leaves, so I was used to seeing the deep red most anywhere in the autumn. At certain times of dusk, it would look like the trees were on fire.

I really like the angles in your photographs. They're very professional-looking. I could definitely see these pictures in a magazine or a professional online website.

Though I have to say that the first and second-to-last pictures are my least favorite. The first because it's so upclose that it looks like a bug is going to crawl out of it (ick! I hate bugs) and the other because of the poor little hedgehog! (At least I think that's what it was). Of course, I would have to compliment you on both. Any picture that can invoke such an emotion is just wonderful. Even though I may not like the content of those two, I've got to say that they're fantastic.

So, good job. It was a pleasure looking through those pictures :)

I'm SO jealous of the trees you have in Canada. I remember a picture that was sent to me from an old member (Kaeru-Sama) that was him kicking a bunch of leaves around in a field, And the colours were just  Amazing!

I tend to take my personal pictures on a VERY high ISO (No matter what time of the day) as I LOVE the bold feel to them. If I was taking shots for a paper, I'd use a flash and low iso (As they're usually mid-day) so that the results can be sent without any modifications in photoshop. As for the angles, That's a key element in my opinion. Everybody who's anybody has seen shots in landscape of a field or open space. I like to bring it up close and macro the hell out of things :p

Heh ... There was some pretty funky insects crawling around that brook. Sadly nothing worth taking a picture of. But I'll be sure to send it to you if i do ;p And yes, It's a hedgehog. I was really confused about how it died, actually. It was flat like it had been ran over by a car, But it was a wide open footpath so I don't know how that one works out.

I'm over the moon you like them, Thanks a lot :)

those look really awesome. I wish i could do it, but i dont have an eye for photography.

I'm sure you do, Badmour. You have an artistic eye (Clearly) and it isn't much different. If you was armed with a camera for a day I'm sure most of your shots would be worth looking at. Give it a try :D

Not quite my picture, but that's what I was lucky enough to enjoy seeing every fall.

The zoomed in pictures are usually the most interesting ones, since they show what the photographer's attention is drawn to. It's so different from person to person, but a really lovely way to see the world through someone else's eyes.

I can guarantee that I won't find a zoomed picture of a bug beautiful. But maybe someone who's not squeamish around them will find the picture fascinating.

It may have been a wild animal that found roadkill in the middle of a highway and was bringing it to their home when they were surprised and dropped it on the path. Or maybe someone was planning an elaborate prank involving dead hedgehogs and hiking. Who knows?!

I do hope you'll share some more photography. England's landscape can be just stunning.

London's the fashion capital of the England, and I heard it's a nice place to live. I would like to check out the 'real' England, but if I was to move there, London would definitely be my destination.

Kaeru-sama was my favorite member. =/

I like photography, but I'm more cityscape/people oriented photography. I don't quite know why.

Oh wow, That picture is stunning. I've seen trees of similar colours, But not as intense as that right there. I'm 21 in 2 weeks and I'm thinking of going away with a few of my friends. I'll have to make sure I take my cameras with me to see incase I see anything similar. My friends don't really appreciate my photography, though. They sigh everytime I stop to take a picture lol.

I agree with you completely. When I browse DeviantArt sometimes, I'm stunned by some of the photos that are uploaded. It baffles me how some of them are even of this planet! I wish I had that talent. I've never really found any apportunity to grab pictures of insects. I don't have a macro lens tbh. I have a 14-45mm & a 40-150mm So it's not really achievable. I may get a macro soon, though. I love close up detail :) They're great to use as textures in PS.

That was a very believable scenario, Lunarea ;) I bet that's what did happen :p

Every picture I take of this season you'll find in here. And yeah, England can be quite stunning at times.

Not bad, nice texture, they all follow the same line, good work

Cheers. Keeping a trend can be a good/bad thing. But since I'm going for the autumn feel, I'll go with good this time ;)

Nah, London is alright ... No doubt about that! I just hate how a lot of people think that England looks like this ...

Heh. Also Jakey ... I don't live in London, So how would you see me? :(

I'm more of a country boy with the whole photography, I think it's because I use expensive tools, And I don't want them snatched in a flash. Plus a lot of people would give you a funny look in a city if you was holding a camera. Nowadays if you have a camera and there are children around, you're a perverted sicko.

stevo do you go to an art school, if you do, which....

I don't go to art school, no. Never have. I'm completely self taught in everything artistical. I'm doing a degree at uni in computer and art design, But that's not taught me ANYTHING when it comes to designing. It's shown me more of a business view of things. Everything they teach I already know and sometimes I tell the lecturers tips to make things quicker. I don't even know why I'm doing it :-/

Cheers for the replies :)

Stevo, you need to visit Sheffield centre if you like photography. Ignore the suburbs unless you want images of Fight Club or footage for "Street Crime 3" (drunken viewing :p).

Centre is full of like weird scenes where there is the old cathedral and a giant glass tower block next to it. And also, tram track roadkill.

Haha, Sheffield, eh? It's not too far from me, actually. What days you free this week? ;)

I might drive there if I find the time. Me and my mates tend to go on nights out round some really random place sin the UK, I could take some shots the day after feeling rough as a parrot (I think the results would show).

Tram track roadkill!? It would be things like rats though, Wouldn't it? A rat that's alive isn't the prettiest thing to look at, So maybe dead they're a sight. I've not got a wierd fetish of taking pictures of dead animals, you know! Haha.

I do the random nights out thing too. I don't really leave Ontario though. If I moved to London I'd most likely make it a priority to visit you, being your stalker and all.

I wouldn't roam around London at night, personally. Really dodgy place honestly. High chance of being pulled out of a phone booth by a 13 year old. :p

Those are some nice pics, and that is a bitchin' ass camera you have.

England seems really pretty; I'd like to visit it one day. Don't visit Florida, though. It's a hole.

Primarily I use an Olympus e-500 evolt SLR. I wanted something with a wider lens capability, And SLR's are the only way forward.

Before that I was using a Casio Exilim EX-Z57 which was a handycam. For the type of pictures I wanted to take (The ones above) It was pretty crappy. I tend to use that camera when I go out on the town or on a trip that's asking for trouble if I take the large one.

I'm getting myself a macro lens pretty soon because I LOVE focusing on detail with my shots. And with a 14-45mm lens, It can only give me so much of that. Isn't it amazing that you can take a picture of something so close that people struggle to know what it even is? And the capability to grab all the detail from a single object works wonders for textures and patterns in Photoshop. It will open a lot of new windows for me on the design side of things too.

I took a picture of my brother the other day in aid of his Myspace whoring and the results were pleasing. It's pretty much my first time taking a picture like that and it was great working with a person rather than a scene. He's just finished his PHD in European Studies and is opting for a career in politics. So I thought the EU flag surrounding his bald head suited the shot.

Anyway, I'm blabbing. This is why I have a blog :p

Take care

That last batch is just fascinating! There's just this macabre kind of beauty in the rotting fruit. And, once again, I must compliment you on the angles. It's such an interesting way to look at nature and notice things we never ordinarily would.

Although the subject's not the same, your photos remind me of the photographs taken in the great depths of the ocean. There are such strange and fantastic creatures living down there. And though your subjects are more ordinary, they still make me pause and go "Wow! I never noticed that (or never thought that existed)."

My favorite is rain (or is it dew?) on the leaves. Such a freshness to it!
