I no longer have this project on my computer so i won't be able to finish it, sorry everyone. If anybody knows how to delete a topic please tell me.

Wow.  I'm just gonna be honest.

Your mapping is very bad.  Some of the most barren and empty maps I've ever seen o.o  But that's okay since it's your first project.  Look around the forum; there are plenty of mapping tutorials.  You just need practice.

Other than that, this is pretty good for a first project.  It actually seems like you put some thought into your game rather than just plopping down some battles and some magic crystals and calling it again.

I'm intrigued as to how you did your battle system.  Can you elaborate a bit?  I don't have time to try the demo now, though.

Your thread needs some work though.  You barely have enough information to be called a topic.  Maybe add a bit more story?

Also, what's up with the screens?  They look fuzzy.

Good luck with your project.

Yeah i knew somebody would say something about my maps, i've been looking for tutorials, i didn't know they'd be in the forums, and i don't have a battle system, it's just enemies on the map, they behave differently, if they attack you, you go back to before the enemies, so you just have to dodge them, the screens are fuzzy because that happened when i made them Gif.

Don't ever give mapping advice. You're maps are no better than his. They have the most rediculous misuse of foliage, and is rather bare.

@lome0: Your story is bad, dude. It's underdeveloped and lacking a strong premise. You need to brush up on your mapping, sure. But I think the biggest mistake you have made here is posting an underdeveloped project. Pick up or download some books on how to write some deep shit. Because, quite honestly, your shit isn't nearly deep enough, and is quite predictable.

I know I need to work on the story, i've only written down the smallest fraction of it, I have a few ideas on what will be in future games, but for now that is the story of chapter 1.

Your maps are horrible too don't even try to help someone with mapping.

And his battle system isn't an ABS its not a script you just run from monsters.

@ lome0: your newest map actually is a massive improvement.  keep improving like that,

Your characters are pretty bare right now. Flesh 'em out a bit more and tell us about them-make them human, make them real. Right now it doesn't seem like a lot's been put into them. Give them personalities, traits, history, other stuff.

And don't use so many spoilers in your thread. If it's going to be large enough to cover at least 3/4 of a screen then sure, but one sentence isn't enough to spoiler. It gets kind of annoying and IMO it looks better without 'em anyway. (screenshots are usually spoilered though)

I haven't downloaded the demo, but there are lots of spelling errors (And this is a major turn-off)
The characters are blurry... You need to fix that. Also, a good way to flesh out a character is by giving them fears, odd traits, a backround, and other things to set them apart from the rest. Otherwise, every character seems the same.

1.  Your story has grammar errors in it.
2.  It is extremely cliche.
3.  The custom characters are inconsisten and lack proper shading, among many things.
4.  You should aim at something smaller, just to get some experience under your belt.

My maps are horrible ? How could they be !? However, well done with the remake of your dungeon, but make it even bigger maybe :)

As rarely as I post, I saw this and just had to say something. This may sound cruel, but I assure you there is flaming or anger towards you.

The "attempt" at a game is extremely pathetic.
I would have to say that you've never even seen a video game before, if you planned on passing this as such. RMXP gives you the resources to make outstanding games...IF YOU USE THEM. Look at your maps. How many game environments have you seen that just have a floor and a wall. That just doesn't cut it. Look around you. I seriously doubt you like in an environment that is just a floor and a wall. Look at the tile set. It has many objects to put on mapping layers. In all honesty I don't think tutorials would be very effective for you at this point. You should grasp the concept mapping before you try doing it at all.

Now your "story." Have you ever picked up a book, opened it, and it only have a sentence in it? A synopsis a can't be a single sentence (Not even a giant run-on). You've got no setting, no hook, and hardly even a characters profile. This again goes back to the basic concept of story writing, which I'm guessing you have no understanding of. Now, of course with all this said, I am not telling you to give us the step by step story progression of your game. Give us something that makes us want to play or even look at it longer than the 1min 45sec it took me to get from top to the bottom of your post (and I'm a slow reader.)

Game making is no simple process, nor is it one that can be accomplished over a matter of hours. Even some of the shortest RMXP games took months to create. Have patience with yourself and take the time to learn the process, learn the art from other people, and learn the software. I hope you have not put much work in this game as of yet, because your best bet from the looks of it would be to start over completely from scratch and build slow and steady, but outputting more quality.

If actually made it to this part of the post, I apologize if I seem like a dick, but I understand that a lot of people want to hop into game design, whether it is as a brief hobby or a career. I'm just offering you a piece of advice (although somewhat harshly) that may help you to not only get some positive attention, but be taken seriously. With all due respect, I thought (and still think) that this a joke game. If so, I apologize if I don't seem very humoring about it, because I've seen every attempt at a joke game considering how long I've been around. They're really not that funny anymore.

Way to go, you just saved my poor hands

I haven't used RMXP in about two years. I'll show you one of my older works though.

This is all RTP (your default graphics for RMXP). You want to utilize every resource at your disposal and try to be creative as possible. It takes a little time to get the concept of layering down to get some desired effects (such as the thick foilage which are normal done with the ugly treetop auto tiles). I'm no where near being the best mapper, but I practiced quite often, entered competitions to get critiques, and eventually got to a level that was widely acceptable.

I know my story line needs a lot of work, but this is just a practice game, and the rest of the chapters will be practice games too, maybe in the next chapter i'll try to use more resources, right now I don't like using them because I don't want to over use them.

Thats right, the forums just converted to PHPBB3. There are alot things to be solved.

And RPG, sorry if I say, but J's map is far better then yours. It may be green, but a forest isnt blue, right?

Lome, good luck on your game, that latest dungeon map you made is a huge improvement. You might wanna look at the tutorial section, there are pretty good tuts there to explain mapping. Also, post example maps in the mapping improvement thread, in RM Discussion or here.
