Okay, I've un and re installed lik 2 pairs of speakers, but nothing works.  And yes, these are good speakers.

In the control panel on sound it says there is no audio device.  I really have no clue what to do.

and I really wanna hear the new music on quintessence   Please help!

If it helps, my computer is the emachines T3304 model.

Any suggestions on fixing this?

If that doesn't work, find your motherboard's driver CD and reload the audio driver.  This happens to me a couple times a month.  Some of the more *ahem* "questionable" (read, ADULT) sites contain malware that might wipe your audio driver.

motherboard...driver....cd....huh??

Okay, if your control panel is telling you there are no audio devices this means you haven't installed the driver, or else the device is no longer working (which wouldn't be surprising with an eMachine, frankly).  What you need to do is find out what kind of sound card you are supposed to have in that thing; first, look at the back of it.  There's going to be a vertical block of plug ins where you plug in your mouse, keyboard, USB devices, maybe a printer and other miscellaneous stuff; if your audio hookups are sitting in that area you have an onboard sound card.  If they are on a seperate horizontal row closer to the bottom of the machine you have a PCI soundcard.  If you're plugging it in on a front or top panel hookup it's probably onboard as well.

Once you know that you'll know what disc your drivers are on, out of the set of dics that should have come with your computer.  Once again with an eMachine I would not at all be surprised if you got only a single OEM install disc or none at all :(  However assuming you have discs you'll be looking either for a disc that says mainboard, motherboard, or something to that effect, or else you'll be looking at something that says something like sound card, audio card, audio device, etc.  Just pop the appropriate disc in and you should get a window popping up with a button somewhere on it that says install audio drivers.  Do that, and see what happens.

No disc, can't figure it out, etc. post again with some more info on your system and I'll see if I can point you in the right direction to download the drivers you need.  Get me as much as you can about its model # and component model numbers, hopefully you have a manual which will include this info.

Ah sorry I replied to you but it got lost in an internet disconnect :(  Let me see if I can remember my train of thought here...

Right.  You said your card is not showing up in device manager.  Doublecheck that there are no "unknown device" listed there, and no audio devices.  If there is nothing of the sort, you are down to three possibilities: either it is switched off in your BIOS, it is completely fried, or it does not exist.  In case #1, you will need to go into your BIOS and look for an option entitled "AC'97 Audio" or something close to that; it should be under one of the submenus in the Advanced tab in the typical BIOS.

Assuming you don't know how to get to your BIOS, what you're going to do is right when your computer boots up you either get a bit of white text on a black background listing your processor speed, ram, your HDD & media devices, etc.  or you get a big splash screen that says "Emachines" or something like that.

In the former case, just hit whatever button it says on the bottom in the line "Press (something) to enter setup."  In the latter case you will need to figure out what button to press to clear the splash screen first, which will probably be tab or esc.  Just keep trying things till you get your BIOS screen up and search around for that option.  It will probably be under the "Chipset Features" submenu.  Don't change anything else unless you know what you're doing, I won't be held responsible for any tinkering. :)

If you can't find any option that says anything like "AC'97 Audio" or "Onboard AC'97" or anything involving AC'97 and/or Audio, and you're sure you've thoroughly searched everything, your PC specs are lying :D  So it's probably in there.  If it's already enabled, and it's still not showing up anywhere in device manager, go ahead and repost.  But you're most likely SOL at that point.
