Yeah, that's better. Didn't like the lime green =x

I'd pick the blue or the green, but that's my personal preference.

I think i really just chose the lime as it stands out. I like to be noticed :)

Dude, that's almost exactly the same as one of my characters.

Goddammit, it's happened AGAIN! Anyways, the character himself is quite cool, apart from the cape. I'm not fond of the colour, and you've also lost a bit of quality there.

How do you mean "Quality" ?
(if you meant that it was soo dark lots of detail was missed out i noticed that too, it has been edited and updated)

"And my Edit: Clara
(Some random Women)" LOL charming...

But oooh darker shades for Clara's suit methinks. Nice hair tho  :thumb:

Edit: Ah. Well I like the recolour too. =x

Clara's hair credit belongs to Tana (she made the hair you recolored).

The shading is kind of jagged in some places (such as the use of dithering--RTP sprites are too small for dithering), but overall I'd say you're doing a good job.

What is Dithering ?

Rogue Pixels on the cape dotted all over the place. Coincidentally, that's also what I meant by dithering.

Which Character/characters are you refering to?

I see. Well i'll have to look harder next time when i do another. He was my first proper atempt though :) first of many however.

P.s Can someone please explain the terms HK and RTP. I know it may sound very stupid but i have no idea what you are on about.

The Gladiator is made by dollmage, isn't he?, well anyways, it looks awesome, But I don't like the Bright capes.. It doesn't, Fit..

Awesome though.

You should be able to use dithering techniques on an RTP sized sprite (or anything really), technically everything is "dithered" to some degree, the trick though is getting it to look good.  Dithering is probably one of the hardest things to sprite manually by hand, normally I use selection techniques, color blending/blurring and then color reduction via error diffusion to get it to look as natural as possible.  There are some tips though if you're going to do it by hand, the first is keep your palette colors close, using colors with stark changes in brightness will make the dither look spotty.  The second thing to consider is color.  Some colors when set against each other seem to naturally blend together (like red and blue) while other colors seem to really stand out against one another.  Primarily it's because of contrast differences but it's also due in part to how the human eye perceives colors.  Generally with your dither it's a good idea to keep each color on a separate layer and then you can manually change each color in order to find what looks like the best blend (not too subtle, not too blunt).

As far as the sprite itself, there are a couple big problems, the first is the size and sizing consistency.  Because RTP sprites are so small it's VERY important to keep consistent sizing, because the smaller the scale, the "larger" a single pixel becomes (or represents), meaning a change by even one pixel can mean the perceived visual difference of say a few inches to a few feet, depending on the object or character.  Generally with RTP sprites one pixel is about equal to 2 inches.  So looking at your graphic (of the guy with the blue cape), on his upward movement the second frame has a three pixel reduction as can be seen here:

http://www.backwater-productions.net/RM ... mple_1.png[/img]

So essentially your character lost six inches of height from one frame to the next...which is pretty noticeable.  Generally speaking on the second frame of an animation you should only drop 2 inches or 1 pixel.  Also be consistent at your cutting point.  If for the downward movement you cut and drop at mid-torso for the second frame and then on the upward movement you cut and drop at the shoulders...it'll be pretty noticeable when you switch from the two directions.  I generally like to cut and drop at around knee level since it makes the most physical sense.  You can also use another technique in which the whole frame is dropped by a pixel, that way you don't need to cut anything, although in my opinion it doesn't look as natural (well, as natural as a sprite can look).

The other thing about your sprite I would change is to add some darker shadows underneath the lighter spots on the cape to give it some volume (see the first two frames in the above example).

I'm guessing he didn't know.  A lot of people download sprite sheets/parts from dozens upon dozens of different places, with literally THOUSANDS of part images with HUNDREDS of creators and sub-creators (people who re-edit existing sprites)...with all that, you really shouldn't expect every last person to recognize "your" work and I use that term very loosely since so very much of the material in this community is HIGHLY derivative (as is to be expected considering the size).  Generally it just kinds of annoys me, people who only make sprite parts for the "glory" for the "credit"...as if it even means anything.  You should make sprites because it's fun and enjoyable and most importantly a means of expressing yourself (read artistic), not because you wanna play king of the hill and posture around like some pompous ass.

The other thing that REALLY ticks me off is people who run around screaming for credit when they fail to do THREE things...

1. properly label your file names

To me, if your file is named something like "sdl43l41.png" ...yeah, that means you don't want credit...and you don't get credit.

2. pick a pen name that isn't completely absurd, filled with garbage or so fuckin generic you shouldn't have even bothered in the first place

If I see a sprite sheet and the guy who made it is calling himself Goku13203923 ...yeah, they get no credit.  If they have such a poverty of creativity that they can't even come up with a semi-original name without taking it from someone else (and not giving THEM credit)...then yeah, there's no reason I should afford them the same courtesy that they denied the creators of DBZ or (insert random fandom here).

3. lack of exif data

It only takes a few seconds to right click on an image, hit properties and then enter in an author name.  It's especially handy for the times when some doorknob comes along and renames your file, because even if they rename it, it's still gonna have the exif data in it.

Onideus, that first critique was fantastic, but as for your "rant", you should know that:

a.) This is no place for an off-topic rant.
b.) This site's policy is to STRICTLY uphold credit. Sometimes people get overly pissed about it, and I agree with you for the most part about filenames and EXIF data (although admittedly I don't do this much myself, either, however I do try to put a graphic in that has my name, esp. in tilesets). However, don't blur the lines. This forum is a little strict about rules, but we're VERY strict about giving credit.

Besides, blaming the artist for not taking every precaution to safeguard their work when it is plagiarized is like blaming a woman for getting sexually assaulted because she wore a miniskirt.

So here I am to mediate ...

Ash, please credit Prexus on the sword anims.

No big deal. A little mistake. No hurt feelings, no infractions. It's not like he said, "I made this animation so credit me for it".

Sheesh.

On-topic: Ash, the capes look much better.
