PIXEL ART ANALYSIS RULES

As of 1/3/2010

To view the General Rules of HBGames.org, please click here.

Original pixel and raster artwork only!

DO NOT POST EDITS AND RECOLORS HERE.
DO NOT POST RIPS HERE.
DO NOT POST REQUESTS HERE.
DO NOT POST MAPS HERE.

Original pixel art
Stuff that you personally made from scratch, although sprites drawn on a template are also permitted. This includes game-making resources and just pixel art in general. Examples: Example 1 Example 2 Example 3

Original art or resources that aren't pixel art (e.g. Photoshopped things, painted things, stuff with an anti-alias)
These are also fine.

Edits, Recolors, Frankensprites, and Game Rips (any art you didn't personally create from scratch)
These go in Edits & Rips.

If you post someone else's work on this board and act like it's yours, that is PLAGIARISM. Plagiarism is serious business and will get you banned.

Requests and Request Workshops
These go in Resource Requests, like always.

Screenshots and Maps
In Project Discussion, there is a sticky there where you can post screenshots. In RM Discussion, there is a thread in there called "Mapping Improvement Thread", where you can post maps you'd like peoples' opinions on. Please do not create new topics for that stuff.

Use IMGZOOM for pixel art

This BBCode is a useful feature that makes critiquing pixel art much easier. Use it instead of the regular IMG tags.

Post Constructively

When critiquing another's artwork, make sure to give valid criticism and advice. No flaming or insulting! While harsh critiques aren't against the rules as long as they're constructive, we highly encourage you not to be a dick about it--feedback is usually received better if it's tactful, and it keeps the atmosphere of the board pleasant and friendly. As a rule of thumb, you can make your point without saying "x is shit"--go with "improve x by doing y" instead.

An example of a bad post vs. good, constructive feedback:
a bad example":yp1qyt3g said:
your sprites suck you suck go jump in a ditch
a good example":yp1qyt3g said:
add more contrast to your palettes and smooth out your line art

Note that the point of this board is for you to get critique to improve your work, so if you're not looking for feedback that isn't 100% positive, you probably shouldn't post your work here.

Workshop Threads

If you post a lot of art in a small period of time, it's better to make one thread for all of it than post it all in individual threads. It can also be convenient to have all of your art in one place. Workshop threads are allowed and encouraged.

You can also use the existing general workshop stickies. The sketch thread is for drawings, and the pixel art WIPs/small things thread is for pixel art.
