Art by Casull

Hey.

Guess my old post got deleted...

Anywho, working on some new art, in a new style. I have a scanner now so I can post them more frequently. lol.

Working on this sketch for a new myspace layout:

practicing a slightly more realistic manga style, with emphasis on proportions and such. Trying to work on things I used to have trouble with and such.

This is a great work i could say!

But i see a little error, the head is too big for the body(the chin emphasizes it)... And the neck, too slender... Other than those, this is neat! :)

Yeah, I was looking at that. Me and like 3 other people were scrambling through anatomy books to try and determin whether or not I needed to change it, i never really decided, they said it was fine, so I left it alone, heh.

Thanks, though. I'm going to be drawing more stuff, I want to redo my myspace in custom art, so I have to draw something interested I'd be happy with using for a layout.

Here's a random sketch I was working on yesterday, I went and took a nap in the middle of it, by the time I woke up I had to get ready for job orientation so I never finished it, totally forgot what I was doing with it. Decided to go ahead and post what i had (I want to try and post tid bits of my art regularly) for the heck of it.

I want to start taking requests. Not for game art, sorry, those would have to be commissions and i'm not comfortable with asking for money for my art yet (I don't feel its good enough.)

But any one who wants me to try out drawing a character from a game or something (link me to an image), I'll give it a go!! Just ask. :D

You have talent, and seems to have a good control of your strokes. You have a good anatomy notion too, and that´s really important. You must be drawing for a long time ^^

Somehow this reminds of some art from FF, don´t know exactly which... The second drawing is awesome, although it´s extremely sketchy xD

Umm... Nothing more to say other than that you´re a wonderful artist. Think about a real job, i´m sure you will get better. Have more confidence on yourself! ^^

P.S.: You don´t necessarily need to ask for money to make game art... This is an indie community, and in most of cases our games won´t be sold (that may mean "no money for u! xD"). Also, paying someone for his work takes out all the meaning of making an indie game;, making it for fun and joy, because you like to do it, and not just for money. For example, actually i´m the concept artist of a game. I´ll do all the characters, some cutscenes and ink them (maybe). But i´m not asking for money to do that, because i like the story and i like what i do. I´m not professional but i love drawing. This position will help me to improve even more. Sorry if our opinions diverges somehow, but that´s what i believe... ^^

Lol, its not that I think I need to, I just would. :P I don't -work- for free. Volunteering to do things like that is too annoying and hectic, people (even friends) develop habits of trying to drive you and demanding things as if you work for them, when in essence you're just doing THEM a favor. So I don't do concept art for people unless I'm charging, I tried the whole "Oh, I can draw, you're my buddy, I'll help you out" thing, and it doesn't work well, especially when you have a busy schedule like I do.

Anywho, no one wants to see me draw a character from an anime or something? lol, I'm going to do some misc. fan art and post it later. xD

EDIT:

I think another reason I'd never really want to do art for free for people is because I'm also a writer, I'm working on various stories of my own, so it takes some really good stories to impress me... And not much can drive me to do things for free beyond being impressed or infatuated. (lol, I'm a dude, what do you expect?)

And yeah, I've been drawing and writing since I was 5. I'm 19 now, but only recently have I been grinding for better anatomy.

Well you have a good point here. Luckily i´m not in this case. But if they become so possessive that way just tell them and try to solve this problem. Or, as a last resource, get out of the project.

Hey, could you draw Roya? She´s so cool with those clothes xD. Maybe Ginga... The adorable Sagiri could be a good choice too.
Or, more challenging with Amil Gaul. He´s cool too.
The two are from KIBA. The artwork in this anime is cool. I hope you get them to draw ^^

Hmm... May i ask what pencil are you using? (type)

The strokes are nice IF you consider it a rough sketch but to much scribbles will make it very hard to erase if you wont ink the drawing first.

The figure has crossed over from realistic into anime... :D Very good job indeed! (the eyebrows are thick :P)

Yeah, my original desire was a manga style with realistic foundation. Lol.

For the first image I was using a generic #2 Pencil (wood), I believe i was hard lead. (Soft lead digs into the paper as it gets dull, making marks that show up more prominently than my base lines) I like hard lead beacause, in my experience, it keeps the same feel and texture throughout the experience, even as it dulls down, plus it dulls a point rather than rounded like most soft lead seems to do for me.

Uh, the second image was draw with a 0.7mm Rose Art mechanical pencil. I -really- hate 0.7mm, the lines it makes are so thick... but only base lines really show up with the scan/contrast formula I use so it works out in the end.

Addressing your concern about the trouble with cleaning, the first image looked WORSE than the second one when I was doing the foundation (huge sketchy circles, etc), I've been sketching since I was little, though, so I have a good habit of keeping the image clean as I go along. Honestly, I couldn't tell you the specifics of the erasers I use, there IS a very specific standard I look for, but its kind of hard to describe. Standard mechanical pencil erasers work really well, though they are usually limited (really small, etc.)

Uh, I used to use those push-up erasers, but I have a nasty habit of losing them... plus its annoying having to drop your pencil, pick up the eraser, drop the eraser, pick up the pencil. Too much brain work when you're trying focus on the elements of the picture, imo.

Hmm, yeah, I basically just use "school yard" standards these days, don't have many good quality (or even decent) supplies at home since i've only been back in my folks' place for like 2 months. After I get my Wii (w00t) and do all of my other xmas shopping and essential purchasing I'll probably do some heavy duty manga supplying. I'll let you know specifically the stuff I'm using, I'm probably going to experiment when it comes to pens (I want ot get into inking, I've never been big on it before.)

Uh, current schedule list:

Sagiri (rough sketch: 80% finished)
Ginga (Because I like his hair xD)
Roya (hmm, I want to try a pose I've never done before for her)
Amil Gaul (just hell yea xD a CHALLENGE!!)

Any other suggestions for images? I'm going to try and be experimental with all of them. (Please... no main stream ff stuff... like Sephiroth or Cloud or Squall.... maybe lesser known characters like Lani, Fujin, or something)
