How can you judge the online mode if you've only played offline?
The fact that the gameplay is literally the same might help.
But in reality (reality being my opinion and not actually being fact in any way), the game was alright. I mean, the story was terrible. The characters were terrible. I've often said the characters were like they weren't even trying hard enough to make cliches work. The British guy that chases women didn't even get his cliche
right, it doesn't seem like they're trying to deviate from the cliche, it seems like they somehow managed to fuck the cliche up.
But aside from the godawful story detracting completely from the game in every way, I found it alright. Guns certainly made more sense, where you didn't shoot in three hit combos like in PSO. But then again, the game completely failed to hold my attention past a single playthrough (and laughing at the comical plot was pretty much my impetus for completing the single player anyways), and the online mode takes much longer to level up on.
It's an acquired taste. .. Oh also the PS2 version has fuck-god-awful load and framerate issues. More than 6 things on screen = slowdown that affects gameplay. And since my friend has the 360 version, and often plays with like 6 other people at a time, I'd say this would probably be nigh-on game breakingly annoying on the ps2 version online.
I'd have to lean more towards Fafnir's opinion on this one. PSU lacks that special something that made you able to ignore the godawful setting and all that jazz.
EDIT: FOOD TIMES NOW! wee eating in the dead of night is always such a hassle, since I can't use the kitchen ;-;
