Antivirus/Adware/Spyware

I've tried AVG and it was decent and all, but I'd like a better free one if possible. I'm also trying to find some good anti adware and anti spyware removers too. Right now I use Ad-Aware SE personal for that but it has missed some things in the past that were causing me problems.

Suggestions?

AVG, in my experience, is the best free one.

Go get Spybot Search and Destroy. That's good for spyware.

I'd also recommend AVG as far as free ones go (though I will admit I'm not paticularly well educated on computer matters) but if you're a student/employed in a job that involves using a computer at all I'd recommend checking what that entitles you to. A lot of universities, at least as far as I'm aware, offer free access to antiviruses etc. that you would usually have to pay for.

AVG = Way too many false negatives. A high chance of deleting DLL's and EXE's you need. When AVG says something is a Virut , It is lying. Because of AVG I have to install windows every 5-10 days. To me its the most horrible anti-virus I've even seen. The only reason I use it is for the firewall.

I use Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, Norton, Ad-Aware SE personal, RegCure, and AVG. All of them find something different.

Norton scans very slowly, and still miss infections. My CPU is going through DLL hell right now. RegCure finds like 9800 problems, and "fix" them. It don't fix a damn thing. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware kill viruses, But they just come right back. I'm at the point where I don't want to get online anymore, well not with my computer.

From what I know: viruses hide in system32, windows folder, and a hidden folder called "temp." etc

Norton in my experience tends to cause more problems than it solves and false positives a lot more than avg used to.

I personally use Ad-Aware, Spybot and Sophos Antivirus. Sophos is brilliant but it isn't free under normal circumstances, I get to use it for free because they have a deal with my university (which is why I recommend checking to see if you're entitled to anything).

I hate Norton with a passion for so many reasons, so that is no.

Is RegCure free? Seems like I've seen it before but it cost a pretty penny.

I think there's one called SUPERAntiSpyware...google it. It's not an anti-virus it's an anti-spyware only but I've heard it's good.

CrapCleaner is pretty good. It's basically disk cleaner and registry cleaner in one program. Works well. Just make sure you save backups before you go deleting stuff with it..

I use Avira Antivir. It's free, and has VERY good realtime protection.

When AVG auto scans my my cpu, everything that is an EXE is deleted when the virus vault is full. SUPERAntiSpyware? I will get and see how it does. The Anti virus guys are getting rich off me. I really don't know how I get viruses. All I do is go to HBgames or go to Youtube. If I need 14 Firewalls to stay safe I'm getting them XD.
