Animated gifs?

Is there anyway to use an animated gif file as a picture?
it only allows pngs and bmps but i wanted to use an animated gif for a moving helicopter to make it look more realistic.

The "realistic" thing have nothing to do with the fact you´ll use gifs or not... You don´t need a gif to animate a sprite. You can do all of that in Ruby, and have much more control of the animation than you´d have with gifs.

Unless someone makes a script to show gif files in the game, you´re bound to use either CIP´s suggestion about show pictures or use RGSS to do the trick with multiple images or tiled frames in one single image (like what happes with character sheets).

To use animated .gifs you would also have to pay compuserve money for a license, AFAIK, as they bought .gif and have a very strict view on how they can be used. (Much like how you need a license for .mp3 if you distribute over a certain amount).

SephirothSpawn made a script to use .png files to play in succession to appear as Animated Gifs.  The script may be available in his test bed.  You may also find the script in a standalone topic at Creation Asylum.
