American Healthcare

I just finished watching Sicko and I am just flat out disgusted,

It sickens me that our form of curing people is based on actually the opposite and trying to make the buck. Also our system can be easily be bought out simply by lobbyist, as long as they have enough money the insurance companies can do almost anything.

Then I saw how the French and English have it and I'm flat out jealous... and mad at our own government for denying how well its working for them. I mean in America if you don't have the money then you don't get the operation. But in the UK or many of the European nations, its absolutely free.

And some say "Oh well they must get taxed to the shitter..." well in reality some people are paying what, 200-500$ a month in health insurance? And even at that, insurance don't always cover an operation, or maybe it will only pay a portion, or won't pay at all because the operation is "experimental", or "unnecessary".

A $120 inhaler in America costs 3.20pesos (around 5 cents) in cuba... no that's just a kick to the gonads. Whether or not it has to do with mark up or not is just flat out ridiculous.

Enough of my rant, I KNOW that I am too easily encouraged by the video since I am one to get siked up easily (as those who saw my Zeitgiest rant) so I once again want to calm my nerves by hearing once again from the forum. Also I would like to hear from some of our english/canadian members and if it really is what it is cracked up to be.

(Also, I am doing a report on this, I saw the movie to actually give me "inspiration" but if you guys could maybe verify some of the facts, like if you know them or not, so I know that if I could write about it or not. It's just a small essay (maybe about a page) about my prospective so it's not like a college report. Anyways, just if you feel like adding something extra)

Ah, while I wasn't a supporter of her, Mrs.Clinton's universal health care was a good Idea. It is rather sad how lobbyist work and how companies and doctors only care about the money they make off of the suffering.

This can of course go into conspiracy theories were many people think a cure for disease like AIDS and others exist but in order to make money, companies only make temporary treatments to milk money out of those who are dying.

Sadly, I do see a plus to this. Why many would consider it evil, death is necessary to keep balance in life. With other species on earth, if they get a terminal illness, thats it. If  everyone got health care  then the life expectancy would probably go up as well as overpopulation. I bet no one would ever publicly use this as a excuse though

er... sorry if I come off like a idiot. This was just my 2 cents on the topic

I loved Sicko. Great flick right there. Although it wasn't 100% accurate, it was still pretty sad and very interesting. I think the main thing was to get everyone thinking.

'Course, I know nothing about the American health care system. It looks pretty bad though. It's a lot better in Canada, for sure, but not perfect. I had to wait three hours in the waiting room once just to get a little X-Ray on my foot.

The only facts I can give is that it's a film by Michael Moore, and a documentary at that so you're not getting all the facts, and there are some benefits to having commercial health insurance. Though I can't give you any figures that's my own personal opinion.

I know a lot of people without health insurance, but it's only because they're lazy, and not that they can't afford it. The most common quote against universal healthcare is that you can't choose which doctor you want to see and when (since everyone is sick all the time.) That means you have to wait for an operation, for several months (ask your friends from Canada, as they talk about it a lot.)

While I don't like paying health insurance every month, if it's me versus someone else in line for an operation I'm voting... Me.

High Hopes

Awesome Bro

Meh. I'm not a supporter of Universal Health Care. Health care in my estimation is a privilege, not a right. I also feel it will also lead to people overusing it, raising costs.

Watching this now. Didn't realize it was such a problem. As an American without Health Care, I am constantly worried that something could happen and I'll pretty much be fucked. Any Canadians wanna get hitched?

I get my inhalers for free? And any other meds are like $5-$10?

Oh wait, I HAVE A FUCKING JOB

Why should I labor and lose out on MY life to pay for Down-on-his-Luck Jimmy who I'll never meet (who probably wouldn't even piss on me to put me out were I on fire), just because his ass is having a hard time?

And guess what? There're FREE CLINICS and MEDICARE.
I was on medicare nearly my whole childhood and went to free clinics. It sucked, but it had to do. Plus, lots of stores offer antibiotics for $4 (or, even FREE at Publix), all you need is a prescription.

I'm sorry, but when bad shit happens to me, I don't say "gimme gimme" to Uncle Sam. I have the dignity and pride to fend for myself and support myself.

Socialism is like giving soccer trophies to the losing team. Oh yay they feel better! But why work extra hard to win the REAL trophy when the one they get anyway is just as good?

Maybe that's just me?

(Oh, and guess what? I only have to wait like 20 minutes to see a doctor if I need one. Or like 3-5 days for a specialist. Or like 4 days for an MRI. How long does it take you, most of Canada or Britain? because I've read the reports.)

Also HUGE MASSIVE LOL at that movie: Moore actually used CUBA as a basis for comparison.

CUBA.

If I have to explain why this is funny, ... Go to school :(

I know your saying that now, but if the option of free health care like us were available to you, i know for a fact that you'd take it without a second doubt.

I don't believe you kids have the option of whether or not you want it.

i.e. Socialism.

And no, I wouldn't take it.

If someone came up to me and said, "Hey, if we take 20% more than we already do out of your paycheck every time you get paid, but any time you get a boo-boo you're covered, you want that? Or would you rather opt for the level of insurance you want and pay for it (and actually it's cheaper than the extra tax, oops), and we don't take your money?"

Ummmmmmmm yeah gonna go with the second option.

Med insurance costs me $16/mo with my employer and I get no extra taxes.

How much does it cost YOU a month for your socialized healthcare? (Assuming that you have a job)

Not to mention, do you have any idea how much it would cost the U.S. to have Universal Healthcare? We have a SLIGHTLY larger population than, say, Canada, Cuba, U.K.

The estimates I heard made it sound like it'd make the Iraq War budget BLUSH, only to increase every single year.

Damn, I wish I had the actual figures on me.

In any case, the only way to even THINK about acquiring all these funds is by taxing the heart and soul out of every citizen, thereby hurting the middle class most.

(Lower classes get taxed only a small sum because it's a percentage of their income, which is null or low, and higher classes aren't so affected by the percentage since it's only cutting into liquid assets.)

But of course that's the lovely liberal agenda. Fuck the middle class and god, save the poor people!

I know! Let's all get exactly the same pay for whatever job we do! It doesn't matter if you work at Taco Bell or manage fifty Taco Bells. Everyone makes the same. And everyone lives in the same style of house! And everyone gets the same food, and same clothes, and same everything. No one is special or unique and the only rich people are those with all the power!

Good idea!
