Age of Empires: A classic RTS at it's finest

Most of you have probably heard of Age of Empires if your into PC gaming (Or even if your not). Unlike Warcraft or Starcraft, AoE is a RTS where you control actual events in history (I.E:Like the war between the Aztecs and the Spanish). It's never been about graphics really (Though number 3 looks VERY nice), more like great gameplay (Which was and still is addicting). Anyone else play these?

Control the actual events of history? I think that's called politics, however, I would say that simulate is a better term to use. The main issue that I see, likewise with Starcraft, is the lack of engine capabilities without using 3rd Party Applications. The the historical campaigns, well, are optional. Playing a skirmish game isn't controlling history. But yes, great game if you are going for a City-Builder/RTS.

Age of Empires was meh IMO.
Ages of Empires 2 and the conquerors expansion was AWESOME. that and rise of nations are the only RTS i like.
Age of Empires 3 was garbage imo ._.

AoE 1 wasn't awe impressive at all. AoE 2 is the best one of the series which is why I still play it. AoE 3 was ok, I enjoyed some of the newer additions to the game mechanics, but the time period just wasn't my favorite. How they limited the characters and such kinda disappointed me. The graphics were relatively nice, and it was fun to see little guys fly around in a flurry after hitting them with a cannon.

I liked the time period that AoE3 took place in. It's rarely used and actually fun to mess around with, since it's nice to try something that doesn't seem polished, but old.

AoE was a great game. AoK improved upon the concept, by adding more things, and improving the system slightly. AoE3 was a horrible rendition of the game. They changed everything that made it good, added a bunch of things to dumb it down, and destroyed the game.
