Age of Empires 3 anyone?

Hello once again community,:p

I personally love the (AoE) Age of Empires franchise. I play AoE 3 online a lot and was wondering if anyone else plays the game online. I'm pretty good at rushing (building a fast army and attacking ASAP) and I have my own clan.

The game for me is VERY difficult because it requires the best strategy to win a game. You have to outwit your opposite. It's very hard on Expert (Duh) but I've beat 3 comps on that lvl before.

If anyone has a Username for the online version of the game, then post it here. I'd like to play everyone sometime.

I don't own it, but I've played it quite a few times. Very good game. The explosions/effects are excellent.

The RTS I've been playing lately (bought it last night) is Supreme Commander. That's an awesome game. I loved the old, similar game, Total Annihilation.

You know, the thing about Age of Empires 3 is that there is a certain amount of paper-rock-scissors involved in civilization selection.

For example, I usually play Russia (Been playing Iroqouis recently) - and I have never lost to the Dutch.

The Dutch are simply no good at defending against early game rushing, which is what the Russians do best (actually, I prefer skirmishers/strelets regardless of which civ I am, so Russia works for me all the way through).

Anyway, in that sense, I don't think it's fair to say that Strategy has a whole lot to do with a Russia vs Dutch battle.

I think it works that way in a lot of matchups - the victor is the one who attacks the other person at the right time with the right units. That may sound like strategy, but it's fairly shallow strategy.

That said, I love Age of Empires III, but I'm a bit burnt out. Maybe I'll hop online one of these days and play a match or two with you. Note that I usually lose, because I don't rush by principal, unless I'm against the Dutch.

Frikkin dutch.

Awesome Bro

I started playing AOE when i got the first one with a pc that was bought for me. I had no idea what to do and when. I just kind of sat there admiring my peasants picking berries and chopping wood. No shorter than an hour later I was bombarded with these red ships firing arrows at my headquarters. After watching for 20 minutes or so sending each one of my peasants to and early grave, It set on fire :( ... I repeat ... set on fire ... from basic arrows :(

From there I pretty much ruined the game by using BIGMOMMA & PHOTONMAN or whatever they were.

Anyway ...

After playing AOE II a little more seriously, I grew fond of the game and managed to get myself online against people from all around the world (Back then that was outstanding).

AOE III I've only played once and I bought it brand new. I'm not a fan of the game purely because it's introducing longer ranged weapons of a later age (Which it's obviously going to do as the titles keep coming) and I don't like it. I'm sticking with AOE II for the time being. Catapults and swords are the weapons of a REAL war!

You don't like it because it has cannons, which have a generally shorter range than Trebuchets?

I'm pretty sure they said at one point that the Age of Empire series is over, though. I wouldn't count on a Age of Empires 4: Modern Combat.

Ensemble wants to make games other than Age of Empires now ^_^

Not just cannons, I mean long range weapons such as muskets and like you said, cannons. Trebuchets and catapults in AOEII were units of destruction. Every solider on AOE III has some form of a long range weapon.

I have AoE II as well. I LOVE that game, but I bought it too late to play online. I bought it in like '03 or something like that. If I?m not mistaken, the severs were already cut off.:( I bet it was A LOT easier playing AoE II online than AoE III due to the Rock, Paper, Scissors thing.

Oangers, Battering Rams, and Chu No Ku were the best for me:thumb:I always played the Chinese or Japanese. I got Whooped by the Turks almost every time because of their stupid cannons...

ARC: Yeah, I learnt the hard way the being Dutch...Now I play as the Ottomans only in rush games. I hate the Russians because I can never get my Economy big fast enough to rush, I always lose.

I've actually been playing that game recently, but I don't play online because I'm too slow at developing militaries ... T_T

I like economic aspects of campaigns!!! :s
