Against rape

As you could see I'm obviously against rape and similar destructive behaviors that may affect the victims in a serious manner or even kill them. That's not the only reason why I posted this. Actually I would like to talk about therapy.
Normally people would accept that victims and their relatives should be treated in a medical institution. But what about the rapists? Why are they normally in prison but don't receive a real and effective medical treatment too? I mean, not just a drug that should lower their high level of testosterone. What would you think he may be able to do if he could stop using the drug for any reason or motive? I think that a psychological or psychiatrist approach would be a perfect complement to this drug therapy, but this is not a common practice as far as I know. I say this may be something better than the normal one just because there is a slight possibility that a rapist may not be able to commit the crime once and again. Of course, police should still be warn if such a person is living in their area.
You're free to say if you agree with me or not.

A rapist is a sexual criminal.
At least where I am, sexual criminals are treated somewhat different than others at first - once their deviancy becomes repeated they are now considered a sexual predator.
Sexual predators do receive medical attention - if they accept it, or if the courts decide that they an not be helped - in the case of pedophilia for example (although that's dying quickly since more and more are fighting to remove pedophilia from a medical condition), you are evaluated and possibly drugged.

Problem is more people want to cut these state/city funded drugs for those who are behind bars for over x amount of time, or life, and others are trying to keep it and add to it - and the discussions are costing even more money than the drugs I'd bet.

I'd like to point out that most of the time, rape is not about sex, it's about power.

A person doesn't rape someone because they have too much testosterone or too many lustful thoughts. It's an assertion of power and a violent subjugation of the victim.

that's true, but if they use drugs to treat them, then this would mean they care more about hormones than the psychological aspect as I noted before...

I never get time for the Symposium anymore. Too much n00b wrangling in Resources ;'P.

I'd like to note A Clockwork Orange. Anyone ever seen that film or read the book? It's fantastic.

Anyway it's about a man named Alexander DeLarge, who is involved in a small syndicate of men obsessed with incredibly violent acts of crime. In one scene, he rapes a woman in her own home. In another, they are involved in a gang war after fighting over the rape of another woman.

He and his gang decide to descend on another woman, but she calls the police right before Alex kills her (with a phallic object, no less). Before he can make his getaway, his fellow gang members knock him out and he's caught.

In jail, the jailors decide to perform an intense "reconditioning". They pump him full of drugs and psychoanalyze him like crazy while "brainwashing" him into thinking about the others he hurt. After that, they let him go.

I won't ruin the rest (well I already ruined most of it), but it basically ends up that he tries and tries to go the right way, but he ends up just reverting back to his old ways.

You can't instill morals or values in an adult any more than you can wake up a dead horse. Either they learn to be civil on their own, or they don't.

Perhaps you can nip it in the bud if a child starts exhibiting abnormal, violent behavior. Perhaps not. There has never been any conclusive evidence (atleast, none I've ever read) which favorably swings toward the argument that criminals can be reconditioned at all. Most of the time the only thing scaring people straight is the idea of going to jail--and that's not really enough. Hence, repeat offenders.

Rape is a crime of violence, as Aeon Blue mentioned, and I personally think the only way to keep a violent person from harming others is to keep them from said others. It may not be terribly effective, but there's nothing to prove any alternatives (yet).

And besides, is it really freedom to be constantly drugged up and forced into mental submission?

in such a case we should start thinking about a prisoner... is he supposed to be free in prison? I don't think so. I'd prefer not to let them go back to their homes if it's highly probable that they'll just waiting for another victim... But what about women that had sex with underage students? I don't think that is taken seriously, yet.

Rape against minor - five years, 1000 USD. Not allowed on school premiseses. Afterwards. No parole.
Rape against adult - four years, 1000 USD. No parole.

Repeat gets 10 years. No Parole.

Thats how it should be.

@Caesis: Are you saying that statutory rape/forced rape of minors deserves a bigger punishment than forced rape of adults? Or are you saying that forced rape of minors should deserve a bigger punishment than rape of adults?

Anyway, to get on-topic, I'd have to say that sometimes jail can be a treatment. A woman I talked to personally who was part of a rehabilitation center told me about her past drug experiences, using heroine, cocaine, marijuana, extacy, etc. and how she was put in solitary confinement for about 50 days. Those days in the room allowed her to combat her addiction. So if it is an addiction and not the deterioration of their morales, maybe jail can be their medication.
