We've taken the bold decision to get rid of all adverts from the site.

We are now the only one of the "big three" to offer you 100% advertisement free browsing.

We aren't here to make money. If we were, the site wouldn't be in our hands now, it would be owned by a multimillion dollar corporation and stuffed with all kinds of crazy adverts and you'd all be on spam email lists.

There are a number of reasons we did this:

• There have been a number of reports (not from HBGames!) that Google Ads can give you trojan viruses. The risk is low, however it is a silly risk to take.
• The money the ads earned was very minimal (~$6 a month), and did not even cover site hosting costs.
• Most people nowadays use noscript plugins or have ad blockers, for various reasons.
• Some functions of the site use javascript, and we want to assure our users they are safe to enable it for this domain if they so wish. To be able to say this, we have to have no external code - this is now true.

We are *reasonably stable* with hosting costs at the moment thanks to a community drive a short while back; you don't need to worry about us disappearing from the net for a while. (All the same, just one new sponsor a month would help vastly for hosting costs!).

Enjoy ad-free browsing and rest assured the normal updates will still happen, the staff are still here, and the site is still online; this is a minor cutback for the greater good ~

But other than that, great, I always find the google ads in the white boxes really spoil the atmosphere and colour schemes of sites... but thats just me.

I was recently hit by a malvertising attack. Using an exploit in either adobe, java, or some other target, it infected my system with a false anti-virus program, terminating all programs that started after it activated; however, it wasn't through Google ads that I got it.

Just want to point out, I'm using the "shadow" skin and the ads are still there. Not that I mind, I intentionally turned off ad-block for this site.

yeah, there are ads in place of the twitter thing instead with this skin.
