About the 'Label' Event

Can someone explain to me exactly what it's for? I'd think it would be something for if I had a long event sheet and I'd want to organize it I could easily go to labelled events, but I'm just checking to make sure that's what its for, and not something that would alter my game somehow, because if what I think is true, it would be very useful.

It is to be used in combination with the Jump to Label... command to change which part of the event is processed.
Labels on there own does nothing what so ever.

It is placed in the Flow Control section for a reason

Please do tell if you still don't understand what it does or are unsure and I'll try to explain in more detail.
