It looks fine. it would be a great way for anyone new to the site or old, that needs help with scripting or any trouble with RPG maker XP in general.
But finding people that would be dedicated to use this daily or during a scheduled time might be a bit difficult.

But for a little chat window that floats while you browse through the site, it looks spiffy.

I think this idea is just wonderful... the dockable window fits very well in the page. The only thing i don´t like is that the space used for the page itself is reduced and that the chat window doesn´t scroll... Other than that it´s very useful. I liked a lot ^^

How does it require more work?

It's just a matter of clicking that link that you'd have to navigate to this topic to find... or clicking the link that's on the top of every page on the site. And there are more people in the IRC chat.

XD, I got banned the first minute from the IRC, for something i didn't do.

IRC is far more developed, supported, and popular than this. It requires an equal amount of work - clicking on a link, if you use the Javachat client (which isn't really bad) - and is more likely to yield a nicer result in terms of users than Gabbly. It's an alternative, yes, but an alternative that isn't really necessary, considering IRC is pretty foolproof as it is.
