A titlescreen done by me! [And chance for a free Title]

Alright so I have my concept for my game but im still hunting for a few key elements so im working on the basic stuff, Like Titlescreens, windowsets , and setting priorities on new tiles. I try to do quality work on stuff like this so please rate it on a scale of 1-10 give me a thoughtful and detailed critique highlighting my weaknesses and how I can improve and be merciless... Because anything could be a lot better with a little advice.

The title part is originally by me, and the background artwork is various art work I have shopped together to create a decent background.

I will take up ONE and Only ONE request.... After a Few requests are made I will go through them and find the most detailed one and create it for free... The reason I'm only taking up one request for now is because I tried an open request forum once and I kinda got jumbled up with other work and wasn't able to finish.

I really believe that rating stuff is pointless, so I took the liberty of editing your post in a way I feel is more productive! ~Perihelion

Awesome Bro

I know you probably think it's really good, when, to be brutally honest, to anyone on the forums, it looks like you've found a random picture of a wolf, wrote your title over the top of it, given it a graident fill and a gold glow.

And since I class that as no effort made, I'd rate this around 2/10, however, I like the picture of the wolf so I'll be generous and knock it up to 4/10.

Remember, if you want a really good titlescreen, you should make sure everythings custom, and make a logo that people will remember, I mean, how many people DON'T know any of the Final Fantasy logo's (Excluding text) when they see it, if I see a crystal, I think FFIV, and alot of games on this forum actually use crystals, lol.

I'd have a plan background ... made with a cloud filter (trust me it looks better than it sounds) and somehow combine a profile of a wolf's face as part of the logo ... ala Sailor Moon.

You know what I'd have ?

Okay, the WolfSpark (Just that word/s) in white, with a black outline, with a black crescent to the left of it, which should have a few little stars floating around it, and the W slightly overlapping that crescent, centered at the top of the pic, and have the background white, with a sillouette of a rocky plain with a slanted rock (Think of Pride Rock from The Lion King), and a wolf stood on that rock in a howling position (Face pointing up etc.)

Can anyone else imagine that ? It'd be pretty cool.

Two things.

1. This board is clearly for pixel art, and this is clearly not pixel art.
2. Rating things out of ten doesn't help you improve. "You suck approximately this much" conveys no useful information, and it encourages people to post numbers without meaningful justification, so on that note I'm really going to have to suggest you not do that. You want to focus on specific places where you have room for improvement instead, so ask for critique instead of rating.

Anyway, I'm moving this, but please pay attention to where you're posting things in the future!

(Edit: Dude, did someone else move this while I was writing that, or am I losing my mind?!
Edit 2: Never mind, I'm just losing my mind!)

See, that just seems too busy to me, a title screen should be simple and yet effective. Remember what you said about Final Fantasy. Their title screens are simple, usually just text with that game's theme (VII a meteor, VIII romance, etc).

When using gradients, don't have the dark part start in the middle and transition to light as you get to the sides. If using gradients at all, horizontal isn't the greatest idea. Try vertical, and lower the contrast between light and dark a little.

Don't forget the colour wheel!
ColorWheel2.jpg
The wolf picture is primarily a bluish pruple colour, so it'd be best to use colours that go well with that. You could use some complementary colours (in this case, a yellow green) or some slight variations. I'd try and lower the saturation a little so it doesn't stick out as much and look odd, especially considering the wolf picture isn't saturated much in the first place, save for the background.

Don't forget that you have that menu on the title screen (New Game, Load Game, Quit) so keep that in mind when designing titlescreens. Make it so that where the menu goes balances out with the title. (ex. having the title in the top right and the menu in the bottom right would be unbalanced and leave the left far too empty, so to balance it out put the title in the top left and the mnu in the bottom right)(idk that's a crap example but you get the idea! )

I'd mess around and experiment with some colours for the title a bit. Just leave out the outer glow and gradient for now and try some basic colours, just to see what loooks best. When you have something that you think looks good, then add the fancy-dancy stuff.

Not exactly, I can imagine it still being quite empty to be honest, but yeah thats a good thing about the Final Fantasy games, you know what it is by the picture on the logo, lol.
